We shipped Cara-4.1 Express this week: better lip sync, more expressive + way faster to connect.
#1 model across 6 metrics vs the market in blind human evals.
Why does it matter?? More natural convos = longer chats = better outcomes for our customers.
Full results from our Cara-4.1 Express evaluations.
60 people held 960 blind conversations with avatars from @Anam__AI, Tavus, HeyGen and LemonSlice, rating each on six questions.
Our latest real-time avatar model is live 🚀
Cara-4.1 Express builds on top of cara-4 to make it faster and more expressive. Tested blind against Tavus, HeyGen and LemonSlice, with the code public.

Cara-4.1 Express is now live at @Anam__AI
Faster and more expressive than cara-4 with better lip sync and stronger prompt adherence. It also handles much wider framings for custom avatars.
We ran blind human evals: 85% of raters scored Anam higher than HeyGen, 88% higher than Tavus and 92% higher than LemonSlice. The eval code is public and reproducible.

3 years of building @Anam__AI, and @Caoimhe_anam and we haven’t killed each other yet :)
Oct ‘23 we both quit our jobs to build the next interface for technology. The first few months were just the two of us trying to put together a deck, get a POC working, find our first customers and convince a few researchers and engineers to take a chance on us.
By May ‘24 we had money in the bank and our first 3 hires. Since then:
- #1 ranked real-time model, 3 releases in a row new models shipping every quarter
- 60K+ users signed up to try, buy and build on Anam
- XM+ monthly minutes in production over the last 4 weeks
- 14x ARR in the last 13 months
- a team of absolute superstars across GTM to research
- backed by some of the best VCs around
First pic is from hours of live testing our latest model in a dark room in the London office. Second is Caoimhe in my old apartment the night we got the very first POC working.
V cool to look back on, but we’re just getting started
Personalize your @Anam__AI avatar's outfit and background 👕
Describe the look, attach your brand logo, and have it ready for conversations within 2 minutes.
A cool customer story - @getdocketai built an AI avatar, powered by @Anam__ai straight into their webpage, getting rid of chat widgets and forms. They've seen 41% increase in agent engagement since launch. Sounds a bit obvious but people love to speak to a face and its showing that.
Link to the full customer story is here: https://t.co/nglw1plT0u, and check out their launch video below, its pretty good.
We’ve just added a cool feature that lets you personalize your @Anam__AI avatars. Upload a reference image and prompt the changes you want e.g. new background, jewelry, a branded outfit and then just keep prompting until its right.

@catmanyau@benatanam Yup, the preloaded text is non-deterministic and can be configured from the system prompt. So you could technically instruct it to say what it is fetching.
Try it out and let us know what you think 🙌
One of the weirdest things about talking to an AI agent is when it needs to look something up and just… freezes.
Humans don’t do that. We say “give me a sec” or “let me check.”
We just shipped this behaviour for @Anam__AI avatars.
Small detail, but it makes a surprisingly big difference.
@abdullla_me@benatanam We also have a bunch of template personas available once you register in the Anam Lab which contain system prompts that you could use as a starting point to build your language learning avatar.
@abdullla_me@benatanam Yes, we do have an API! You can sign up for a free account on https://t.co/PWDB1zTE2x and get started.
Once you register, you can get an API key and integrate Avatars into your app either through our SDKs or using a framework like LiveKit or Pipecat.
We've been steadily making our avatars feel smoother. "frame rate delivery rate" is the percentage of session-seconds without any dropped frames, as measured in the server. Dropped frames can happen for a variety of reasons, especially at scale, eg a customer's LLM slows down and causes a downstream stall in our pipeline. We've been slowly optimising these areas and v satisfying to now see us hit ~99.4%, meaning ~1s in every 2.5mins experiences a dropped frame (important to note this doesn't include packet drops on poor internet connections, which is another can of worms all together).
Cara-4 is now in @livekit agents. Keep your existing voice agent stack and the @Anam__AI plugin turns agent audio into synced avatar video in the same room.
The new model is 40-70% faster with 2.5x higher-res video and director notes lets you control emotion + delivery live, during the conversation.
Thank you @Emaaapop for the video : )
June recap from Anam:
- A small contract grew to $280K within the quarter.
- Monthly active production orgs grew 25.4%.
- One rep finished Q2 at 257% of quota.
- The business closed $1M+ in revenue in June.
- Session connection time reached a 1-second median and stayed under 3 seconds at p95.
- Melissa joined the GTM team.
Teams are buying interactive avatars and putting them into live workflows.
The product work supports that shift. Faster connection times mean less waiting before a conversation starts.
Customer demand, production use and product performance moved in the same direction this month.
Proven product. Proven demand. Self-serve ready to compound.
Hiring Growth Engineer.
If you're a Growth Engineer, Product Engineer, DevRel or Product Manager at PLG-fueled, dev tool or AI company? Plugged into the dev and startup community? We'd love to chat!
Don’t start the weekend crashing out alone
We teamed up with @inworld and @Anam__ai to build a hyper interactive agent that watches your face and observes your tone. When you go quiet, it notices. When you look like you're about to lose it, it softens.
