As we celebrate Armenian Independence Day, at least 23 of our compatriots remain illegally imprisoned in the dungeons of Azerbaijan - a member state of the Council of Europe and @COP29_AZ host country.
The sin of those Armenians is the fight for freedom, their desire to live a dignified life in the land of their ancestors. This remarkable day is theirs at least as much as it is ours. For this reason, now I would like to read out the names of our compatriots who, being deprived of freedom, are missing out on the opportunity to celebrate this solemn day.

According to Chatham House expert, Karabakh Armenians’ fears have a precedent. While Baku wants to avoid allegations of atrocities, “we have this history that when 🇦🇿soldiers have come across some Armenian civilians, they have been murdered. There’s a climate of impunity.”

Today I was at the Lachin corridor that links Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia.

It is currently blocked by Azerbaijanis, leaving 120,000 residents without access to essential goods.
