"The practical risks of AI are not that they become super capable thinking machines. It is building complex systems around machines we falsely assume are capable of greater discernment & logic than they possess."

Once again, an AI system is not "thinking", it's "processing", "running predictions",... just like Google or computers do.
Giving the false impression that technology systems are human is just cheap snake oil and marketing to fool you into thinking it's more clever than it is.
I’m taking a sabbatical through end of year. First time to relax since co-founding OpenAI 9 years ago. The mission is far from complete; we still have a safe AGI to build.
📣New! Despite its increasing adoption in AI governance and industry circles, the term “sociotechnical” is widely misunderstood. Our new brief aims to remedy that, explaining what a sociotechnical perspective is and why it’s so important in policy. 1/6 https://t.co/HE3e4Ktz7N
🚨AI policy alert: The new report from the Dutch Data Protection Authority is out, and it has bad news for AI developers & entrepreneurs (automatic translation below):
"I'm very concerned, if I'm honest, because I don't even know if mental health can be solved digitally."
#MozillaAwardee Well-being Struggle studied top mental health apps used in the workplace, and while they can be helpful, there are also clear harms: https://t.co/weoxA5lg6w
"Using AI to cut cost" will be the new "chasing scale" for news media.
Fundamental biz problem facing news is value creation: people aren't willing to pay attention to, let alone pay for, much of what is published.
Doing more of the same more cheaply does nothing to solve that.
'The core of the [AI] ideology is that a suite of technologies, designed by a small technical elite, can and should become autonomous from and eventually replace not just individual humans but much of humanity' https://t.co/B7XtoBup1u
