@FritzlineR Yes completely unavoidable! Going into the field and teaching at my former high school I was surprised how much more technology is used than just 5 years ago! #IM42x

@FritzlineR Right now it is difficult to expect students to have access to some technology at home because the few who don’t would be excluded from some opportunities. I think in the near future, we can expect more accessibility. Now we can’t expect everyone to have an app/etc. #IM42x

Google Meet has breakout rooms and polls in its activities now! We presented malpractice cases and I had students vote on the verdicts. Great digital tool #IM42x

Schools traditionally promote turning our weaknesses into strengths which is good to an extent. However, the most successful people are the ones who play to their strengths. We should be helping students to recognize their natural abilities and fostering those skills IMO #IM42x

@clowddyandsunny Thanks for sharing! Another thing I would add to the list is grit/resilience especially now. That skill can come from adaptive thinking and problem solving, but it involves fostering a belief that students have what they need to succeed, they just need to persevere #IM42x

Personally, I learned these skills through observation of my former teachers and professors. We have to keep in mind that students often learn skills by modeling our own strategies. I learn best by using other people's examples as my templates. #IM42x

An obvious new skill students are learning, and teachers alike, is navigating technology for distance learning. Students are learning new skills like using breakout rooms, discussion boards, etc. through exposure. #IM42x

@BSKboys34 Another thing is just keeping up with current events and popular culture. Tik Tok for example-- users with 1 million subscribers are the new celebrities! Or YouTubers. These may not provide new skills you are aiming for, but they can give you ways to foster engagement #IM42x

It’s important we use new terms often and do formative assessments so students get familiar w/ them#IM42x

I have used Kahoot! which can get over utilized in my opinion but Jeopardy is a good way to mix it up and make it more fun in teams I think. I also was recommended plant histology and animal histology when teaching about tissues in anatomy. #IM42x

Crash course is one of my favorite tools especially since I myself am trying to brush up on all my own anatomy and physiology knowledge! & it’s not just for students but gives us teachers ideas for explaining our content or giving examples. #IM42x

Other tools I use are physical models and props to show more accurate representation of the human anatomy like Dr. Bones here. I am working on grants to get more of these things for my classroom 🤓 #IM42x

For teaching this week I wrote a murder mystery based on the show Grey’s Anatomy. I transformed my classroom into a hospital and students had to answer questions about the course content to get tickets used to find out others’ secrets. Awesome in-class study tool! #IM42x
