This guy bought Samsung’s 990 Pro 4 TB SSD when it was ~$330 and now Samsung REFUSES to replace it as the SSD now costs ~$950 due to the AI boom.

The SSD came with a 5-year warranty but started malfunctioning after just one year.

He sent Samsung evidence showing the drive was malfunctioning. Samsung rejected his claim, said it was working fine, and mailed it back to him.

When asked for a replacement, Samsung said the SSD was “out of stock” and couldn’t be replaced, offering only a refund of the original ~$330 purchase price.

The problem? The same SSD is currently IN STOCK and selling for around $950, so the refund wouldn’t even buy a replacement.

He’s now taking legal action against Samsung.

At this point, replacing the SSD would’ve probably been cheaper for Samsung than fighting the lawsuit. 😭

Once again, @TheSun has demonstrated its total lack of both journalistic ethics and basic human decency.

The man featured in this article is a police officer. He was viewing child sexual abuse material as part of ongoing investigations. He was deeply traumatized by what he saw, and he does not deserve to be pictured with such a disgraceful headline.

Officers who are required to look at this kind of material are devastated by it. PTSD is pretty much a guarantee. This work shows you the absolute worst of human nature, things you couldn’t have imagined even in your darkest, most twisted nightmares. I’ve worked these cases. I’ve seen the things that pedophiles enjoy, the things they do to kids — and toddlers, and babies, and even infants. Sometimes the victims die. Sometimes you can tell they’re going to. And even when there’s no violence involved, the victims — children — are suffering right in front of you and there’s nothing you can do about it. For people who are wired to protect others, there’s very little that’s worse.

The Sun owes this man and his wife a printed apology and a clarification. It is no small thing to stand by a spouse who works law enforcement of any kind, and to stand by a spouse who is traumatized from working CSAM cases is even more difficult. These two people deserve better than this deliberately misleading headline.

Right now is the PERFECT time for Stargate to re-enter the world.

All the major sci-fi brands, like Star Trek, Star Wars, Dr Who, and Battlestar Galactica, are either on hiatus or stuck in development hell.

This leaves sci-fi audiences ravenous for some good sci-fi to watch. It's a wide open field for you, @AmazonMGMStudio, @PrimeVideo.

Furthermore, not too much time has passed for the actors. Sure, Richard Dean Anderson is getting up there in age, but he could still have guest appearances. There is still time, but the actors aren't getting any younger.

However, if Stargate goes back into development hell, first of all, we won't see anything happen for another 5 years, minimum. Probably more. And secondly, when it comes back it'll be a reboot for modern audiences with no connection to the current canon, so we lose all hope of seeing our favorite characters again and find out what they've been up to.

Not utilizing this Window of Opportunity™ would be a tragedy on par with not letting Luke, Han and Leia meet on screen in the sequel trilogy.

So now is the time, Amazon. The audience is there, as proven by the worldwide trending tweet storm and the 94,000 viewers of the MGM flyover. Add to that a https://t.co/emgjVeDb1s petition that will probably reach 100,000 soon, and you have all the market research you could want.

The audience is STARVING. The goal is open. The ball is lined up. You're in position. All you have to do is kick the ball.

I started watching SG-1 at age 15. I was the first in the family to start, but one by one they all joined me. Then one day, even my Dad joined. NOTHING on television held my Dad's interest. He never went to the movies. It was the first time I'd ever connected with him in this way. Not long after he started, he came home one day with the first season DVD box set, and the whole family started watching from the beginning. He kept buying the sets, until we caught up with the currently airing show, and then we watched like clockwork as a family every Friday night, with pizza and soda.

You have to understand, that is a CRAZY thing to type out about my Dad. He never did stuff like that. He was tough to connect with about something that wasn't mechanical or construction. I can't think of a single other fun thing he did with us that wasn't what a kid would consider "chores" or "work." My siblings and I treasured those Friday nights like nothing else. It was an entirely new experience, having something like that where he would quote the lines to you in the middle of the day (Teal'c lines were his favorite, especially the infamous "undomesticated equines" line).

My Dad has been buried for almost 8 years now. My oldest two kids barely remember him and the other two never met him. We recently watched both SG-1 and Atlantis as a family. It's been an emotional ride, sharing this with them yet wishing Grandpa was around to share it with them too. My kids ADORE Stargate. My girls have crushes on Daniel Jackson and John Sheppard. My youngest son wants to BE Jack O'neill. They cried when Daniel ascended the first time. They were over the MOON at the idea of a new series in the works to enjoy. I haven't had the heart to tell them the news that the whole thing has been called off.

A parasite that has been eating people for 3,500 years is about to be wiped off the planet. It infected 3.5 million people in 1986. Last year, it infected 10. And I have not seen it make a single front page.

It is called Guinea worm. You drink contaminated water from a pond in a poor village. A year later, a worm up to three feet long starts coming out of your leg through a burning blister. There is no pill that stops it and no surgery that works. You wrap the worm around a stick and pull it out slowly, over days or weeks, inch by inch. If you rush, the worm breaks inside you and causes a fresh infection.

Guinea worm is ancient. Preserved worms have been pulled out of Egyptian mummies from around 1000 BCE. The Ebers Papyrus, an Egyptian medical scroll from 1550 BCE, describes pulling the worm out with a stick. For three and a half thousand years, that was the best humans could do.

Then in 1986, public health workers decided to kill the parasite off. They had no vaccine and no drug. What they had was cheap cloth water filters and a small army of volunteers willing to walk from village to village for decades.

The plan was simple. Give everyone who drinks from a pond a cloth filter to strain out the tiny water fleas that spread the parasite. Then send volunteers walking house to house, year after year, teaching people how to use the filters and keeping anyone with an emerging worm out of the water.

It worked. From 3.5 million cases a year to 10. Four were in Chad, four in Ethiopia, two in South Sudan. The other four countries where the worm used to be common, Angola, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, and Mali, had zero human cases for the second year in a row. The World Health Organization has already certified 200 countries as Guinea worm free. Six are left.

The last hurdle is dogs. Cameroon had 445 infected animals last year and Chad had 147, so a lot of the remaining work is on animals, not humans. Strays get leashed, and crews treat ponds to kill any remaining worms. The campaign keeps watching until the number hits zero.

When Guinea worm hits zero, it becomes the second human disease ever erased from the planet. The first was smallpox. It will also be the first parasite humans have ever wiped out, and the first disease ever ended without a single dose of medicine. Volunteers walked village to village with cloth filters for 40 years. Now a plague from the age of the pharaohs is about to be gone.
