It’s essential always to remember the criminalization of homelessness was NEVER meant to solve homelessness. Sweeps and any punitive response only agenda is optics - so the public sees fewer homeless people. The long-term ramifications will be disastrous, but most politicians only have short-term thinking.

I know it's human nature to want to believe other people are like us, but we need to wake up to the fact that most of the public does not care if the homeless person loses their stuff. They do not care if a homeless person is being harassed by police. I don't believe they even care that homeless people die outside. They blame homelessness on the homeless person. They do not see them as human. They just want homeless people gone. So, messaging that tries to tug at hearts because a homeless person lost their stuff does not resonate with the public.

Don't believe me? We have been sharing the same stuff for years, maybe decades, yet the only thing that changes is that criminalization grows.
