“The Israeli conviction that the other side only understands military force, making diplomacy and de-escalation irrelevant, isn't just because the Middle East is a tough neighborhood. It's also partly due to straight-up, old-world racism.” by @dahliasc https://t.co/iJ3bLyJ7lO
I don't like to tweet about the news, but this is just too much. I'm the doctor who wrote the recent @nytimes piece about what American healthcare workers saw in #Gaza. The @WHO reports today that Israel has banned five American aid agencies from working in Gaza. Israel gave no reason, but are all organizations with Arab leaderships. This is the easiest way to win important votes in a close presidential election in history: @POTUS and @VP should publicly announce that until the ban on American aid agencies is reversed #Israel will not receive American military aid. Simple, easy, literally zero security concerns involved, and what American law clearly requires.
This is the context, this is what matters. Not killing Sinwar one year into a war that has destroyed Gaza and has not brought anyone closer to basic humanity
If Sinwar truly was the obstacle to a cease-fire agreement that U.S. officials have claimed, that obstacle is now gone. The United States and its partners have a window to halt the downward spiral to regional conflagration.

It's presidential election day in #Tunisia, the first since Kais Saied's 2021 autoglope, and the atmosphere around the vote is decidedly apathetic. This week I went out to chat with some folks about what they're thinking and feeling ahead of the polls....
Political prisoner, writer and activist Alaa Abd El Fattah was due to be released on September 29, after serving five years in detention. Instead, he is set to spend another two years in prison, his lawyer Khaled Ali said on Sunday.
Authorities have refused to consider the two years Abd El Fattah spent in remand detention before he was referred to trial as part of the time of his sentence, according to his lawyer.
The refusal is illegal, defense lawyer Nabih al-Genady told Mada Masr, voicing uncertainty with regard to Abd El Fattah's future. All scenarios remain open because the authorities are not following the law, he said.

And so goes Lebanon. While the world's governments issue a few weak words here and there at best, allowing Israel the dignity of attending at the UN while brazenly defying every principle norm and standard it's supposed to stand for.
Meanwhile, my father, mother and sisters watch the obliteration of our homeland, praying our family who is still there, the aunts and uncles and cousins, are safe.
What more? What next? Je suis fatiguée.
As usual, Israel rejects ceasefire proposals from the US & others
As usual, the US, rather than condition military aid on a ceasefire, approved a massive $8 billion military aid package for Israel
Why would Israel concede anything if the US will keep aiding it unconditionally?
This isn’t just a political scandal, it’s a collapse of all morality. When we say that the US has enabled Israel’s Palestinian genocide, this is what we mean:
