@Slakonbothsides This is sort of where I'm at. He's definitely miles better on this than he has been for a while, and there's moments where he really shows why he was held in such high regard. But I'm still wondering how with Dre and Fredwreck he's picking beats i don't really care for
@Ms_Petty_Kakes@TheQuestions15@Kil889 You'll have to break that one down for me. Because I don't see how me asking a a genuine question, and one that I haven't seen asked before on here, defies any of those things?
@TeddyMacSoFly@TheQuestions15@Kil889 So the point around technicality and cadence - are those not 2 qualities you could bring to a cover? Putting your stamp on something.
Or is that where freestyles come in. You bring your own style, technique - but keep to the competitive nature by showing what you could do with it
@Kil889 That makes a lot of sense. I was comin at it from doing a cover as a way of showing appreciation, especially now we have 50 yrs to look back on. I think a lot of rappers could put their own style in it, but yeh, I guess theres a limit to how interesting you could actually make it
@TheQuestions15@Kil889 Genuine question - why is it that covers aren't common or even accepted in hip hop? They're huge in every other genre: Hendrix, Amy Winehouse, Marvin Gaye, Tina Turner. Some of their biggest hits were covers. Given how important sampling is, it feels like covers go hand in hand
@adammahogany@robpursey ๐ฏ Warren G! He's always my answer to this question; I think his later stuff gets massively overlooked. Return of the Regulator is a brilliant album, and between Game Down Wait and Yo Sassy Ways I think he also has the best songs 213 ever put out
@dondeezy80 @Slakonbothsides I own everything they've ever put out! Buk is in my top 10 of all time.
Never witnessed it in real time though, only got put on to them much later after I heard Twista and then did a deep dive into the whole Chicago underground scene
@DagogetaTv Played Psychodrama the most this year. Their new album dropped end of December.
But if we're talking strictly this year, gotta be Masta Ace
@sweetsweetsauce@EastonMajor I've got this CD but don't remember mine having a 2nd disc. Maybe I just assumed it was CD-Rom so never listened to it ๐คฆ๐ผโโ๏ธ
