Citizenship by descent is a natural right, and any just legal framework should recognize and protect it. Failure to do so often raises questions about whether those at the top have interests that do not align with the long-term aspirations of the people.

Citizenship by birth is granted based on the geographical location where a person is born (jus soli), whereas citizenship by descent is based on the nationality or bloodline of a person's parents or ancestors (jus sanguinis), regardless of where the child is born.
