The operational successor is the easy part. The hard problem is control: how you keep companies this consequential from being captured by people who optimize for the next quarter instead of the next century. Most founders worry about who inherits the money. He’s worried about who inherits the mission.

We’re not even a rounding error on the Kardashev scale. The Sun outputs more energy in a second than humanity has used in its entire history — and we’re capturing almost none of it.
That’s not a reason to feel small. It’s the strongest argument for going multiplanetary and building real space-based industry. Planetary energy is a dead end. Stellar energy is the actual game.
