Breaking - ex Mid and East Antrim Council chief Anne Donaghy has been convicted at Ballymena Magistrate’s Court of two charges of suppressing an email from being released under the Freedom of Information Act.

She was cleared of a charge of seeking deletion of another email.

OK Rob, let me just explain something because you seem to be getting confused about this quite a lot recently. We're journalists. We're reporting - entirely legitimate - concerns about the potential cost of Burnham's plan. That's our job. You, as a politician, have a different job. Part is to criticise your political opponents. But another big part (and this is the bit you and your colleagues currently appear to be really struggling with) is to come up with actual policies to deal with the major issues impacting the country you aspire to govern. But your attitude here appears to be that whatever policy Andy Burnham proposes you will oppose it solely on the grounds it's Andy Burnham who's proposing it...

Argentines have many qualities--rhythm, a gift for cooking certain cuts of meat and baking pizza, an ability to play football (sometimes even without fouling their opponents)--but irony isn't one of them. So lost on them is the fact that they--a people descended from colonizers who liquidated the people who lived on the land they conquered, as well as from waves of European poor in search of a better life (Italians, Spaniards, Poles, Ukrainians, Serbs, Welshmen, and so forth)--are laying claim to the Falklands, islands they have never once possessed, inhabited by people who have no earthly wish to be Argentine, in the name of decolonisation. I can't think of a more twisted, absurd claim. At least Gibraltar--which is, and should always remain, British, for as long as its residents do not wish to be citizens of Spain--was once Spanish, until it was acquired lawfully by Britain. The only sovereignty the Falklands has ever known is British.

The Guardian has now been told by three sources that in March 2024 Nigel Farage told senior Reform insiders that if he were to resume leadership of the party, and run to be an MP, he would need to be compensated for the financial harm of giving up his City career to spend 20 years campaigning and standing for election again.

Insiders and donors were insistent that Farage needed to return and to take Reform into not only a 2024 general election but a 2029 one, too. He argued that would cost him £5m, the sources said.

No mention was made of security costs in the discussions about needing to replace lost earnings, sources said.
