Miramax is currently developing a new Halloween theatrical film targeted for release in October 2028, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of John Carpenter's original 1978 classic.

The project marks a major shift in the franchise's future strategy.

Following a competitive bidding war, Miramax originally signed a deal in late 2023 to develop a Halloween television series intended to launch a unified cinematic universe.

However, insider reports indicate that “Miramax has officially shelved plans for its long-rumored Halloween television series,” choosing instead to focus all creative energy on a major big-screen theatrical return.

Rather than continuing the narrative timeline established by the recent Blumhouse trilogy (Halloween Ends), the studio is planning a complete creative reset.

The new film aims to strip away decades of convoluted continuity and return to the tense, atmospheric dread of the 1978 original.

It will not continue recent films, nor is it expected to rely heavily on legacy characters like Laurie Strode, allowing the franchise to build a fresh foundation around Michael Myers.

Because the film is in very early development, no director, writer, or cast members have been officially announced. Rumors suggest that Paramount Pictures may become involved as a theatrical distribution partner, though this has not been finalized.
