I am a mom to two amazing kids, a wife to an awesome husband and a learning resource teacher at Jackson where I get to help students and learn as I go!!
Kids don't plan to come to school to get into trouble. Behaviour is a form of communication and quite often - the reason for it will make you sad, not angry.
If a child's gone into a fight or flight, the co-regulation has to be proximal, it has to be #soothing, has to promote #safety, with no attempt to teach the child at this point. Our #teaching moments will come later
The opposite of spoiling: In some families (and perhaps cultures), parents conspicuously sacrifice everything for the child. But look closer: it's all to make the child a success in conventional terms, not to meet the child's psychological needs. The result can be debilitating.
One thing that is clear is that no child chooses to be left behind, and if it seems that way, you have not dug deeply enough. #Parents#Teachers#Educators
Assessment resources: Take and make a copy of anything in this thread that is helpful for you.
My goal with my students is to give them ownership of their data so they can take ownership over their learning.
Here are some resources that have helped me.

If a child is being left behind is it truly because a child is not willing to make the sort of effort that more successful peers are prepared to make? Or are there other factors holding the child back, factors that, once understood, can be overcome? #SelfReg#Reframe

Teachers, counselors and administrators may recognize the cumulative stressors that they face, but they don't always realize that their symptoms are a common reaction to working with traumatized children -- and that these symptoms have a name. https://t.co/jDbOt0QUCF
