Why are internet conversations so negative?
Godwin's law states that as an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis approaches one.
This isn't literally true, but negativity does increase as online discussions grow longer. A new archival analysis of over 2 billion Reddit comments finds that online dialogue becomes more negative over time.
Negativity increases over time because social media users seek to make unique comments and stand out from others, and it is easier to differentiate oneself through negative comments (rather than through agreement).
The basic human motive to stand out interacts with the structure of social media platforms to disrupt healthy online dialogue.

Depresyon, olduğunuz kişi ile olmak istediğiniz kişi arasındaki mesafeden; kaygı ise olduğunuz kişi ile olmanız gerektiğine inandığınız kişi arasındaki mesafeden beslenir.

I met Nicholas Shackel at the UK Conference on creating a post-progressive social science. "Who," you ask, "is Nicholas Shackel"? He is the UK philosopher who developed the idea of Motte & Bailey to "deconstruct" the silliness of postmodernist claims around things like truth and objectivity (claims wrapped in dense verbiage that create a superficial impression of depth & insight).
1. The exposé of the silliness of Foucault's analysis of "truth" on pages 4-5 is a thing to behold.
2. In addition to Motte & Bailey, other gems include:
Troll's Truisms
Postmodern Fox Trot
Equivocating Fulcra
Rankly Relativising Fields.

People who want to maintain existing hierarchies treat male perpetrators of sexual harassment with greater leniency, especially when they have high status.
Those high on gender system justification + social dominance recommended lenient punishments to perpetrators.

In fact, 🇲🇽 is hosting the World Cup after its entire judiciary—including the Supreme Court—was purged, checks on the executive were dismantled, and the country’s first non-democratic election since 1997 (the judicial election) was held.
And a crisis of 130,000+ disappearances

A few months ago, a high profile paper in Science claimed to find that researchers' ideology produced biased results in favour of immigration.
A reanalysis of the data finds that result came from a coding error, which once corrected, shows no effect.
Will people who shared that original finding update their views?

Fakir bir ailede büyüyen kişiler gerekli olmayan durumlarda bile yüksek kalorili yiyecek tüketme eğilimindeler.
Çocuklukta yaşanan fakirlik beynimizi "bulduğun enerjiyi depola" modunda bırakıyor olabilir.
✨New paper out @SpringerNature✨ For 8 weeks around the 2024 US election, we randomly assigned 2,000 people to use social media algos we custom-built. Do engagement-based algorithms amplify intergroup, moral & emotional content + does that distort how we see political norms? 🧵
Are women more attracted to men with resources?
It depends.
Romantic preferences for people with economic resources are stronger for the sex that is poorer and individuals who are poorer.
When women earn more money, this preference goes away. This suggests that economic preferences are cultural, rather than evolutionary.
However, romantic preferences based on physical attractiveness and age are largely unaffected.
