Why are internet conversations so negative?

Godwin's law states that as an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis approaches one.

This isn't literally true, but negativity does increase as online discussions grow longer. A new archival analysis of over 2 billion Reddit comments finds that online dialogue becomes more negative over time.

Negativity increases over time because social media users seek to make unique comments and stand out from others, and it is easier to differentiate oneself through negative comments (rather than through agreement).

The basic human motive to stand out interacts with the structure of social media platforms to disrupt healthy online dialogue.

It depends.

Romantic preferences for people with economic resources are stronger for the sex that is poorer and individuals who are poorer.

When women earn more money, this preference goes away. This suggests that economic preferences are cultural, rather than evolutionary.

However, romantic preferences based on physical attractiveness and age are largely unaffected.
