โThrough the efforts of our media specialist, Mrs. Liebert, World Lit sponsored our school during World Read Aloud Day to encourage everyone to share a story by reading aloud. Students and teachers were engaged! Literacy is our cultural norm.โ#SWCultureofLiteracy@LisaGilligan4
TumbleBook Library is great for K-5 because they took existing books, and added sounds, animation, and narration! Iโd allow my students to read as they wish and at their own pleasure. #SWReadingEndorsement@LisaGilligan4
@NicholasFerroni Iโm a 4th grade teacher and recently finished my 7th year! I teach all subjects at an IB/PYP school in South Georgia. Finishing my Masters in Reading, as well as a reading endorsement. ๐
@AmberBarnhill_ Such an IB post! Iโm intrigued to incorporate some of these in my teaching next school term. Iโm even more excited to read The Flower Man! In my car NOW! ๐ฅด๐คฃ
@KenseyEdgar I love this strategy! I first learned from Teaching with a Mountainview and bought her resource from TpT. My kids LOVE it when I use pictures to teach skills, grammar, to main idea, to making inferences.
Conversation Cards engage students in conversations and the practice of speaking and listening to their peers. https://t.co/d7pDwuykbO #SWGAContentLearning
Pictures are a great way to teach reading skills! So many kids are visual learners. The options are LIMITLESS! You can have students do the most basic task within the skill, to the most complex. You can even include science and social studies! #SWVisualliteracy
I chose the โProve Itโ strategy to help lead my students to use reasons and facts to support their claims in science. Many students tend to simply list one or the other, but not both. This teaches them to do both! #SWGADemonstratingMeaning@JSerravallo#writingstrategiesbook
#SWGAGainingMeaning โGather Up the Factsโ is a useful strategy that allows students the ability to go back and recall what theyโve read after reading nonfiction texts. I love how it can be utilized with students of all ages and grade levels.
KWL charts are great to use before, during, and after teaching a topic. Teachers can gain knowledge about what their students are thinking and clear any misconceptions they may have. I do various versions, but they all provide a wealth of information!
My 5th graders are learning about the 9/11 attacks. Weโve been using a KWL chart to help build background knowledge, create questions when reading, and making connections when reading. Today we completed our โLโ! #SWGAGainingMeaning@LisaGilligan4
โYes, But Why?โ is also a great strategy for fiction to help students understand characters in more depth. They can analyze the characterโs words, thoughts, actions, and more to understand their motivations and reasons for what they say and do.
I love this strategy because it teaches students that authors give them clues to help them grasp the meaning of unknown words in text features. Beautiful anchor chart!
Look to Text Features is a great strategy to ensure students pay attention to all parts of the text for important facts and details. Using text features to understand the text. #SWGAGainingMeaning#readingstrategiesbook
