A key stage has now been reached in the restoration of the Sir Walter Scott Monument, part of the transformation of George Square – watch to find out more
@joe_yer99 Hi Joe, thanks for your message - it’s not been forgotten about and will be addressed. My understanding is given unplanned Scottish Water works in the area there’s various issues to work out in the sequencing of works, but it is very much on the radar. I’ll chase an update.
Glasgow’s cycle hire scheme is on a roll and growing fast. In the six months since @voitechnology became the city’s operator:
📈 Rides up 311%
🚲 455,000 trips taken
⏰ 7.29 million minutes ridden
👥 46,000 riders
📍 171 bike stations (up +60)

Come along to the fantastic Good Times street food market at the Broomielaw Waterfront (G5 8LW) for lunch – it’s really popular, especially on days like today, open until 7pm 🌞🥘😋
📣 Update - Union St - 21 May 2026
Cordon around Union St. & Gordon St. has now been reduced and pavement on north side of Gordon St across Renfield St has reopened for pedestrians. Vehicle access still restricted. Union St from Gordon St remains closed 👉https://t.co/ZsoZvBOyd6
Cowcaddens Road Avenue is nearing completion - and it’s looking fantastic.
Great to see the ongoing transformation of the our city centre streets starting to take shape!
I am delighted to bring plans for @GlasgowCC to secure a new GP surgery in the city centre.
The lack of a city centre GP surgery has long been an issue for residents - and this support to secure one is great news as we grow the city centre population.

@PJL1971 Hi - traffic modelling, impact assessment/feasibility is exactly the kind of work we are requesting take place. TS are clear the status quo isn’t an option - so we want the opportunity to be fully explored rather than rushing straight into replicating the existing viaducts.
@tamforrester Sorry, I think you’re misunderstanding - there is no “announcement” of a change, only that the Council believes we should take forward a detailed transport modelling study of revisiting the city centre stretch of the M8.
Clearly, extensive traffic modelling and business case development is required to explore feasibility further - that is what GCC is requesting TS do.
But we must seriously consider this opportunity now rather than rush into replicating the status quo, at great public expense.
With @transcotland consulting on the Woodside viaducts’ future, @GlasgowCC has requested detailed further work to explore removal of the city centre stretch of the M8 - replacing it with a ground-level road and unlocking major regeneration opportunities.

The M8 bulldozed through the city in the 1960s, severing communities & leaving a scar in Glasgow’s urban fabric with ongoing impacts today.
Removing the viaducts would restitch the city centre to neighbouring communities & would be far cheaper than permanent repair/replacement.
With every door chapped, with every conversation, we are working to build a better Scotland.
Tomorrow we have a great opportunity to make history, and with hard work and #BothVotesSNP, we can. 🏴💛
@joe_yer99 Demolition contractors are moving quickly on tying the gable ends which started last week after careful dismantling of the damaged structure. Appreciate this is hugely frustrating but it is extremely complex given site constraints & safety imperatives for public and contractors.
A re-elected SNP Government will extend childcare from 9 months old to the end of primary school, 52 weeks a year.
Make it #BothVotesSNP on May 7 for a government that’s on your side.
Thanks to @P4F_Scotland for inviting us to their Clean Air Event last Friday at the City Chambers. Better buses will be vital for improving air quality for all
