Entering my “public company director” era this week which means a quieter social media life.

Thank you, FinX and this community of X, for helping me grow in sources and research, refine communication skills, and find joy in connecting with very bright minds and kind hearts.

As I step into a new role as a public company director, I’m simply choosing to redirect my posting energy and more time to serving the shareholders and leadership of Kirkland’s | The Brand House Collective for this next season.

Treasury will be searching for new issuance patterns. An accurate interest outlook (guess) is difficult but imperative at this juncture. If lower fed funds rates trigger high long term rates, terming out T-bills to the 3 to 5 year pocket maybe the best strategy. Look for new, complex QE strategies in 2025. Will derivatives play a larger role?

Need a fresh reason to spread kindness? How about my 50th birthday?!

In honor of my 50th birthday this month, I’m inviting the X community to participate in spreading acts of kindness. Buy someone a coffee. Write a note. Give to a charity.

Why the X community? Because I personally have experienced growth in my craft, kindness from strangers, and friendship with folks I would have never known without this platform. I approach my 50th with a deep sense of gratitude.

As a professor, advisor, and mentor to many first generation students, I can personally attest to how $500 to $1,000 can be the literal make or break financial moment for students to continue their education. They borrow textbooks, use friends’ computers, and often take the lowest possible meal plan just to make ends meet. A small gift goes far in being the difference between stopping short of the goal to finishing the journey.

TL;DR: a banner year for the “professor” hat I wear. 💙🐏💛

Backstory ➡️ I decided to try my hand at teaching Fall 2020 because I don’t do well with “downtime.” Our consultancy, @DISTILLIQ, proactively and empathetically released all clients from our retainers and contracts in March 2020 because many of our clients needed understanding more than insights during the crisis of having to layoff 85% of their workforce in weeks; they didn’t need invoices. We continued to serve them, but differently. That left me with more time on my hands than I wanted. (PS this ended up being a very good business decision but that’s for a different story).

I answered a LinkedIn post looking for adjuncts for a local, small, faith-informed private university. I had guest lectured at another university, but not a whole semester’s worth of teaching.

Apparently, a week before the post, the team had been praying for someone to join the team with my profile of experience (how cool is that?!).

While most universities had optioned to be remote Fall 2020 out of logistical and political ease; @NorthCentral_MN decided to dig in and do the hard work of being hybrid and in-person. While teaching wasn’t a breeze in those conditions, I simply fell in love with the new hat I was wearing and the community I was called to serve.

You see, many of our students are first-generation college students or come to school with families making significant sacrifices for their child’s education. Our students will often work 1-2 jobs just to make their payments to be in school. 100% of our students receive some form of aid and many of them qualify for Pell grants which paints the economic picture of our school. It’s especially for these students my heart is drawn to teach and offer a world-class experience and opportunities of mentorship.

This honor reflects G-d’s blessing of an offering of time, or as I like to teach, a decision to be in “a long obedience in the same direction.”

Do I wear two professional hats as Professor and Consultant? Yes.

Am I tired at the end of a week? Yes.

Do I say “no” to opportunities that don’t align with my values, calling or capacity? Yes, often.

Is it worth it when you realize students felt supported, seen, invested in, and loved when they voted you as Faculty of the Year? Yes.

What “long obedience” are you in right now that needs a little encouragement? Hopefully it’s this post.
