A few days ago, my co-counsel in the Besigye case, Erias Lukwago, was arrested and detained in Uganda.

Today, alongside Law Society of Kenya President Charles Kanjama, I travelled to Uganda to attend court proceedings concerning his case.

Instead, I was unlawfully detained and deported.

I am deeply grateful for the overwhelming support, concern, and solidarity expressed by fellow leaders, individuals, professional bodies, civil society organizations, and democratic actors across East Africa and beyond.

Your messages, statements, prayers, and acts of solidarity were a powerful reminder that the defence of justice is never the responsibility of one person alone.

The right to legal representation, a fair hearing, and equal protection under the law are not privileges reserved for a few. They are safeguards for all of us.

Erias Lukwago still deserves justice. Dr. Kizza Besigye and Hajji Obeid Lutale still deserve justice.

And across our region, there remain many citizens whose rights, freedoms, and dignity depend on our willingness to defend these principles whenever they are threatened.

While I am encouraged by the solidarity shown today, there is still much work to be done. The struggle for justice, democratic freedoms and human dignity continues.

But so too does our resolve.

It must center us so called “Bumless women with big stomachs,” Us who are tortured and detained for speaking truth to power, Us who cannot walk into a bank and get a loan, Us whose Candidacy will not use 7.5 billion of tax payers money to hold loud empty rallies and bribe Ugandans with soap to participate in empty political gimmicks.

Dear Ugandans, we have to #ShiftThePower and challenge Uganda’s Political Culture and end this old game of politics.

Last Friday, we celebrated women uniting to uplift, inspire, and lead. As we mark one year of Johnnie Walker’s #SheWalks mentorship program, it was an honor to toast to the transformative power of intentional mentorship and allyship amongst this collection of leaders, entrepreneurs, executives, creatives, and rising stars.

At Uganda Breweries, we've learned that diversity and inclusion aren't just a box to tick; it's a business imperative that drives better decisions, stronger stakeholder relationships, and builds more resilient organizations.

Special thanks to our host and valuable Member of the Board, @RachelDumba , and Christine Kyokunda, our Johnnie Walker Brand Manager, for initiating this program that is growing into a whole continental movement of its own. Our guest speaker, the amazing Lynda Biribonwa, Chairperson of the Board of Directors at the Petroleum Authority of Uganda, shared her incredible journey up the steep corporate ladder to her current position and inspired us to be unapologetically bold with our dreams.
