@katiedimartin As a 1st y PhD student, went to an international conference in India, co-funded by my university and my alma mater. Day 1, I was the only (West) German. Was told that it’s tradition to sing national anthem of all sponsoring the conference. No recordings allowed. 1/3

@katiedimartin Same prof didn’t accept me as PhD st b/c he allegedly already had s.o. working on exact same topic - I’d asked a friend (!) (his PhD st) to proofread my MA thesis. She translated it into German + send it to him as he asked for intro into my subject as he didn’t know about it 3/3

@katiedimartin East German prof didn’t know words to nat anthem, so made me sing it on my own. Day 2 and big wig prof (and my master’s supervisor) arrives and reads his entire paper. Including all the instructions his 3rd y PhD student had added, like ‘click on the image to play video’ 2/3
