A very welcome piece from @RSylvester1 demonstrating how far-right culture war claims are driven by ideology not by evidence. The real threat to civilisation is when we allow these ideologues to erase the truth.

Time and time again, in the wake of tragedies like Heaton Park, Southport, we saw the lightening transmission of disinformation. In Northern Ireland, this has been the best example yet. AI graphics of "protests" organised by people in Russia. Bot farms flat out thousands of miles away churning out threats, fake pictures of the victim and incorrect information. Resulting in large crowds, extreme tensions, hate and fear. Resulting in violence and rioting. The UKG must act now, not just in legislation, but by resourcing the police, NCA and other agencies to take rapid action to deal with this and to legally force social media to remove this content and stop it's spread. It is a national security issue.
Reminder that FIFA president Gianni Infantino was investigated for multiple ethics violations within months of taking office in 2016. The charges went away when he, in effect, closed down the unit investigating him. 1/3
"We are in extreme danger," says climate scientist Peter Kalmus (@ClimateHuman), who warns that this summer "could be the hottest summer we've ever experienced in our lives, but it could also be the coolest summer for the rest of our lives."
Kalmus says he was forced to resign his job at NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab, where he worked for 15 years but faced growing pressure and censorship over his activism.
CNN's resident fact-checker Daniel Dale hasn't conducted an on-air fact check of Trump in more than three months, a stretch that coincidentally began around the same time Paramount announced its merger with WBD

10 years ago Jo Cox was shot and stabbed to death in Birstall by a far right thug.
Do you remember the Farage \ Tommy Robinson riots that followed it,
No me neither.

Restore, Reform & the Conservatives are all pulling to the right with “a simple remorseless logic: that there is no limit in how nasty the British public can be”.

Taking to the stage again, for the first time in years, on 23 June, EU referendum 10th anniversary
This distils over a decade of my work on Brexit, Trump, Russia - but hopefully in an entertaining way, with an amazing cast
🧵1/5 The appalling scenes of xenophobic violence that broke out on June 9 in #Belfast are a frightening reminder of how normalized racism and organized racist violence have become in the UK.
A devastating knife attack should never be used to justify more violence. Human Rights Watch’s thoughts are with all the victims of violence.
The Yaxley-incited, Russian influenced racist violence demands HMG immediate action. We need a UK Hybrid Centre of Excellence, new powers and DUTIES for useless Ofcom, new duties of resilience on public broadcasters. It's an emergency - https://t.co/lqA29eywSp
I've just left the Mater Hospital after meeting health workers from many backgrounds who are genuinely terrified for their own safety and for the safety of their families.
They are appealing for those behind these attacks to stop.
These health workers are the people who care for us and our loved ones when we need them most.
I made sure to share with them the deep appreciation that the vast majority of people have for the work they do every single day
This is a fascinating and alarming investigation demonstrating how closely linked a rise in racist and anti-Muslim ideology is to Russian black ops - based on Russian documents
Shameless adolescent self-interested liar and disinformation superspreader, Richard Tice, has falsely claimed: “There’s no evidence that man-made CO₂ is going to change climate change” and Britain should simply “adapt to it.”
There is overwhelming, globally accepted evidence that man-made carbon dioxide (CO₂) is the primary driver of current climate change. The scientific consensus is virtually unanimous.
For voters in Essex and Kent, where millions of homes now face heightened risks of subsidence and sinking foundations from hotter, drier weather driven by climate change, Reform UK’s climate scepticism is a direct threat to their properties, insurance costs, and long-term security.
The British Geological Survey’s analysis is stark: hotter, drier summers are already shrinking the ground beneath houses, dragging foundations down. In 2025 alone, subsidence triggered £153 million in insurance claims in the first six months. By 2070, under a medium emissions scenario close to current global trajectories, more than 1.8 million properties nationwide could be affected, with over 26% of homes in London and major exposure across Essex and Kent.
Under a low-emissions Paris-aligned path, that drops dramatically to around 500,000. Scientists warn this is a “double whammy” for the region: dense housing plus the biggest projected changes in rainfall and temperature.
Many properties already show diagonal cracks, sloping floors, and plummeting values; lenders often refuse mortgages until costly underpinning or stabilisation work is done.
The UK is “built for a climate that no longer exists” and needs urgent mitigation to protect homes and communities. Yet Reform UK’s leaders reject the science and climate action.
In counties on the front line of these escalating risks, electing leaders who deny the problem and block mitigation leaves their homes, insurance premiums, and future bills far more exposed.
The science is clear: failing to act now dramatically worsens the outlook for the very properties Essex and Kent families rely on. Prioritising short-term rhetoric over these tangible, escalating threats is gambling with their voters’ most valuable asset, and their children’s futures.
Multimillionaire poshboys Tice and Farage do not give a solitary shit about their voters or their voter’s children - unless they’re giving them £MILLIONS or have fossil fuel interests. 🤑
