1 in 7 UK-trained doctors have left to practise in another country @FT reports - and its easy to see why with rates like this 👇
Junior doctors and nurses have suffered a much steeper decline in real-terms pay than the average worker.

@JWard_Carroll @ipayyourbenefit @ClaaareKirwan @DoctorYemula NHS indemnity is limited. Any ‘extra contractual’ work (that we regularly do) eg cremation forms, are not covered. If we helped someone ill on the street and there was problem, this would not be a covered by NHS. GMC protect patients, they definitely don’t protect doctors.
In response to the misleading figures used in the tweet below from @DHSCgovuk 👇 BMA Council Chair @DrPhilBanfield has today written to the Cabinet Secretary to request a formal investigation to see if it has broken civil service code.
@DHSCgovuk It's sort of amazing that the United Kingdom is now a country where our civil service (ie DHSC) send misleading information on Twitter in support of a political party (Conservatives).
The figures are generous manipulations... Not representative.
How did we get here? Terrifying.
@JWard_Carroll @ipayyourbenefit @ClaaareKirwan @DoctorYemula Indemnity from NHS is actually limited. Lots of doctors e.g. GPs aren’t covered at all by it. So, the vast majority of doctors pay out of their own pocket for indemnity. It’s an extremely litigious job and getting more so.
@ipayyourbenefit @JWard_Carroll @ClaaareKirwan @DoctorYemula Not totally true unfortunately. Doctors pay out of their own pocket for mandatory insurance (called indemnity), GMC registration, registration for professional bodies, exams, courses, and huge student debt to name a few
How many doctors have been prevented from attending the weddings of friends and family, or even had difficulty with their own wedding due to inflexible rotas and jobsworth rota masters? Enjoy the wedding @RobLaurensonD4P
Junior doctor strike: Union's pay demands 'unrealistic', says Steve Barclay - BBC News. I note MP pay up over 30% & >£20k since 2008. Reality: this is a political choice to not pay for doctors. @SteveBarclay blocking talks, not @TheBMA. https://t.co/bEqcxJFAMV
🧵 NEW: Should junior doctors get a 35% pay rise??
Most unions are timid about broaching double figure pay rise demands: not the BMA.
But the fact is, the NHS doesn’t have the pull it once did - and doctors can double their salary overseas @thetimes

Today is #WorldLeprosyDay and what better way to mark the occasion than by sharing key education on the diagnosis and management of leprosy? Check out this must-read article, a ”Guide to diagnosis and management of leprosy"...
@jfb_smoggy @RichardsSarah0@wesstreeting It is a view based on years of studying the evidence, and experiencing work in different systems. The 'efficiencies' in private healthcare are the driving down of standards. Turkeys vote for Xmas when the general public think they would benefit from privatisation
@LBC@NickFerrariLBC The caller clearly stated an example of inefficiency- the inability to recruit staff due to low pay. @NickFerrariLBC please respond directly to this, rather than speaking over him. Otherwise its not a conversation.
