Olive Tree Elements (Romans 11)
Olive tree: sphere of Abrahamic covenant blessings
Root: Abrahamic promises to patriarchs
Natural branches: Israel (believing remnant remains; unbelieving broken off)
Wild branches: believing Gentiles grafted in
Future: Israel grafted in again
Speaking as a Gentile, imagine reading the OT and coming away with the idea that God will ever be finished with His nation of Israel.
An idea so preposterous and incoherent only men could have come up with it.
@JoelWebbon Straw men notwithstanding (“cherishing blood and soil” is not racism), the straightforward way to understand this post is that you have become the very thing you claim to hate so much.
The misunderstanding of Darby by many Reformed pastors and theologians is a bit sad. Darby was very Reformed with high church orientation. He was Catholic, not Roman, but rather believed there in one Church. His view of the work of the Holy Spirit would have made him mildly charismatic. While he's most famous for his end times theology, the name dispensationalism was given coined nearly 40 years after his death and was derogatory. It mainly describes how God engages with humanity over the centuries. Like many in his day, including Jonathan Edwards and many of the Puritans he saw the physical restoration of Israel as a key part of God's redemption of the world. Darby wrote over 3 million words over his life and is one of the most influential Reformed theologians in history.
