Here is a chart of global sea-surface temperatures (SSTs) from 1982 to 2026 with the years 2023, 2024 and 2025 omitted.

As of June 27th, global SSTs have set 26 daily record highs in a row.

Of course we both know we’re dealing with an immeasurably complex self-reinforcing stochastic system where we have to let the “simulation” run to see the results. Perhaps in retrospect with enough time we begin more meaningfully untangling the results.

@PaulRoundy1 @WeatherProf You’re reaching too far back w/ 1998, things have changed - less aerosol pollution, more CO2, less sea ice and other feedbacks contributing to net planetary heat retention. Post 2016 Nino might be a better analogy, where temps recovered unnaturally fast compared to post 1998.

My personal experience has been that Sonnet 4.5 consistently produces better and more maintainable code than GPT 5.
