Elon, if you don’t understand that defending freedom is a basic tenet of what makes America great and keeps us safe, maybe you should leave it to those of us who do.
There is a Chinese saying, “Calling a deer a horse.” It was used by a chief minister, Zhao Gao, in the Qin dynasty as a loyalty test. One day, he brought a deer to the court and he called it a horse to see who would disagree with him. Those who disagreed, he deemed them as disloyal. The entire speech that Trump gave yesterday was a deer/horse loyalty test. It was filled with flagrant lies possibly by design so that he knew those in the audience cheering for him to be his loyal supporters. He made Zhao Gao proud.

A lot of people are portraying USAID as some sort of bastion of looney DEI excesses. Let’s take a look at what the sudden arresting of their operation is doing to global health. Please read the thread (my thread, not Ryan James’):
For recent PhDs in contemporary Chinese studies looking for a post-doc, this looks like an incredible opportunity at both Peking U. and Princeton. I've got no ties to either place, just wanted to pass this along. Jobs (and post-docs) are hard to come by!

Wondering what Trump's hashtag#freeze on US foreign aid means for hashtag#China's role in the (development) world? I didn't plan on that being my starting point, but it might be where this upcoming webinar ends up. Global civil society has been 'in' China for decades 1/
and having discernible impact, but an equally interesting story is China's more recent ambitions to 'go out' and provide aid to other countries. To learn more and swap thoughts, join me online on Feb. 18 (or 19th, depending on where you are). I'll be sharing insights from 2/
Thanks, @PhelimKine and @politico for the chance to share some thoughts in "1 Book, 3 Questions" about my book #EverydayDemocracy (@ColumbiaUP). Trying to shrink a book into less than 300 words was tough but kinda fun, too! https://t.co/x2iNthX2YE
