Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern #Gaza is receiving a constant stream of trauma patients due to ongoing hostilities in the area. The hospital has just one pediatrician, one orthopedic surgeon and limited nursing staff -- @WHO team assessed. The hospital building and equipment sustained damage during the most recent siege, and its four ambulances were destroyed.

WHO transferred 23 critical patients with 21 companions from Kamal Adwan to Al-Shifa Hospital, and 16 patients with 16 companions from Al-Shifa to Nasser Medical Complex in a multi-day mission to north Gaza in the past two days.

We have provided medical supplies, food and water for patients at Kamal Adwan Hospital -- but much more is needed. Additionally, this week we have also provided 40,000 liters of fuel and medical supplies for 6 six hospitals in Gaza City.

As the situation continues to worsen across the Strip, especially in the north, keeping hospitals functional is of utmost importance.

I will repeat again: the only path to safeguarding the health care system in Gaza from collapse is an immediate and unconditional ceasefire. Lives depend on it!

Ahmad, a child born with a ventricular septal defect (VSD) and in urgent need of a pacemaker replacement, was successfully evacuated from #Gaza on 12 September 2024.

He is one of 97 patients transferred to the UAE in what was the largest medical evacuation since October 2023 for specialized, life-saving care. Many others, like Ahmad, see their lives at risk while waiting to be transferred outside Gaza.

WHO and partners remain dedicated to securing safe patient referrals and ensuring continued access to essential health services.

One merchant ship seems to have arrived today in #Israel – departure from #Turkey almost 2 days after the 🇹🇷government had announced an embargo.

The ship's destination was reportedly earlier given as Egypt, but was apparently changed on the way.

.@WHO, @UNOCHA, @UNMAS and @UNDSS supported #Gaza’s Health Ministry today in organising dignified burials for the unidentified bodies on Al-Shifa Hospital premises.

The bodies were previously lying under dirt or plastic sheeting, and were given fuller burials on site or at a nearby area.

When the dead are buried properly, they can be identified later with forensic examinations, giving loved ones some consolation.

This war is a moral failure of humanity.
