@cab_1989 And ain't that the crux right there! I do it because I love it, and I take plenty of precautions. So whilst these changes are broadly good, are they enough to encourage ppl who don't love it to get on bikes? Not even close (though surely it beats horseback)
Yeah they're improved legal protections - but let me tell you now as somebody with a regular 30km 🚲 commute if I start riding in the middle of lanes and following my right to priority at turns, there's going to be a big flat Antony in the middle of the road.
And no. 4, whilst we need that now, it's an absolute cop-out for lack of investment in infrastructure, and an admittance that many cycle lanes aren't fit for purpose.
How are motorists going to be educated on the new rules and more importantly on the reasons behind them? Without an active edu plan, it's gonna be death by death, court case by court case.
looking forward to seeing the responses from drivers both on social media and real life who will absolutely not follow the new highway code changes towards cyclists and ultimately the road will never be safer until we fix motorists' attitudes and get proper infrastructure
A part of this myth that somehow cycling belongs to certain European peoples due to "heritage" is the deletion of diversity in cycling's past (and therefore, deletion of discrimination). Cycling, deep down, should be about opening (or climbing over) gates, not keeping them.
if there is another lockdown, a good activity is checking in on each other instead of moralising over who does lockdown best, prolonged bouts of isolation & uncertainty are also dangerous, covid or not, this is not negated by fact that covid tearing through population is also bad
I think this is too cynical. It's as much Masi's incompetence has allowed Red Bull and Mercedes to play politics all over the year. It's always been part of f1 (1989, 1994, 2008) and is high drama too. The dark Lord Horner won the day. Let's not go match fixing here.
Michael Masi lost control completely these last 2 races. That's where this all went awry. Great drivers both but so much dodgy stuff went down there...madness
