A lake with 49 orchid species and 150+ tree types just became India's 101st Ramsar Site — and it's inside a tiger reserve. Arunachal has its Glaw Lake moment. Which Bihar wetland deserves this next? #RamsarSites
Under the leadership of PM Shri @narendramodi , India has emerged as a global leader in wetland conservation.
India's network of #RamsarSites has grown to 101 with the designation of Glaw Lake as Arunachal Pradesh's first Ramsar Site.
Situated within the Kamlang Tiger Reserve & Wildlife Sanctuary, this pristine freshwater lake in the Eastern Himalayas supports exceptional biodiversity, with over 150 tree species and 49 orchid species recorded within the site and its catchment.
The designation reflects India's continued commitment to wetland conservation, ecological sustainability, and environmental stewardship.

Which animal rebuilds part of its skeleton every year, then sheds it on purpose? Not a lizard's tail — a deer's antlers. Bihar's Valmiki forests are one of the few places you can watch this cycle up close. #ValmikiTigerReserve#Bihar#NatureFacts#Horns

Global Tiger Day passed yesterday, but conservation doesn't run on a calendar. Through a GIS lens, it's habitat mapping, corridor connectivity — not just rangers. Bihar has its own stake: Valmiki, our only tiger reserve.

Greetings to all wildlife enthusiasts on Global Tiger Day. The people of India are proud of the fact that we are home to almost 70% of the global tiger population. India’s tiger conservation efforts are inspired by our centuries-old culture of living in harmony with nature and powered by the collective will of our people. We also reaffirm our commitment to science-based conservation, community participation and sustainable development that strengthens tiger conservation.
Beautiful message on this sacred occasion. 🙏 Adding one ecological thread to it: Jagannath's idols are carved from neem — sacred trees called Daru Brahma, found through ritual search, not convenience. Faith and sustainability, centuries ahead of the term.

Greetings to everyone on the sacred occasion of Rath Yatra. This is a radiant expression of India’s timeless spiritual and cultural heritage. The traditions associated with the Rath Yatra have inspired generations across India and the world. They embody humility, collective participation and selfless service.
May Mahaprabhu Jagannath bless everyone with good health, happiness and prosperity. May He give us strength for all our endeavours and deepen the spirit of togetherness in our society.
Jai Jagannath!
I've seen these colonies near government buildings — that beak gap is built for cracking snail shells. Ghonghils eat apple snails, a real rice pest, quiet allies for farmers. Would love this series to cover why they trust crowds over forest.

Rainwater doesn't fail us. Drains do.
In Bihar's fields, I've watched monsoon water rush into drains within hours — water that could've recharged groundwater already under stress.
Harvesting rain isn't a trend. It's basic infrastructure now.

Rainwater belongs in the ground, not in the drain.
When we harvest rainwater, we recharge groundwater, strengthen agriculture and support our local ecosystems. Save water, adopt

Standalone solar pumps under PM-KUSUM matter more than the numbers show — I've seen how much irrigation in rural Bihar still depends on unreliable diesel power. Pairing this push with Model Solar Villages could genuinely shift access, not just stats.
Hon'ble Union Minister for New & Renewable Energy, Shri Pralhad Joshi along with Hon'ble Chief Minister of Bihar, Shri Samrat Choudhary co-chaired a comprehensive review meeting on Bihar's #RenewableEnergy sector with senior State officials and District Magistrates in Patna.
The meeting focused on accelerating rooftop solar deployment under PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana through the Utility-Led Aggregation model, increasing installation pace, addressing financing bottlenecks, promoting Model Solar Villages, fast-tracking government building solarisation, and strengthening awareness and outreach.
The review also covered expediting PM-KUSUM implementation through feeder solarisation and standalone solar pumps, enhancing preparedness for PM-KUSUM 2.0, advancing Floating Solar projects with Energy Storage Systems, Small Hydro, Green Hydrogen, and Green Energy Corridor Phase-III to strengthen Bihar's clean energy infrastructure.

Chilika's story is coastal and maritime. Bihar's Ramsar sites tell a quieter, inland version — Kabartal and Gokul Jalashay, both born from rivers changing course, not tides. Same principle though: water remembers what we forget. Would love to see this series cover them too.
Every Ramsar Site has a story. And every day, we'll uncover one.
Our first stop is Chilika Lake in Odisha. The name Chilika means "soil inundated by water." Historical texts describe its southern section as a key harbour for marine trade during the reign of the King of Kalinga.
Even today, that maritime legacy lives on through Boita Bandana, when colourful paper boats are sailed on Kartik Purnima.

July10 Tesla's birthday. Now Global Energy Independence Day.
My own campus at Nalanda runs NET-ZERO — solar, biogas, zero waste.Elsewhere in Bihar,I've seen what unreliable power costs people.
Independence isn't just a fuel switch. It's who controls power.

Gokul Jalashay doesn't look like a river. But it hasn't forgotten it. The Ganga left this oxbow lake near Buxar in 1952 — still, easy to call empty. It buffers 9 villages, hosts migratory birds, and got Ramsar status in 2025 — still working, long after the river left.

Not all wetlands are deep water bodies.
Marshes are shallow, waterlogged wetlands filled with grasses and reeds, providing safe havens for birds, fish, and countless other species.

Marshes don't look like much from a distance. Shallow, waterlogged, quiet.I've walked through Kabartal .No waterfall,no canopy.Just grasses, reeds, stillness.Easy to overlook.Easy to drain and forget. We protect what looks dramatic. Wetlands ask us to protect what looks empty instead

Ever wondered what happens when a river changes its course?
Sometimes, it leaves behind a crescent-shaped waterbody called an Ox-bow lake - a unique type of wetland teeming with life.
