Looking for some good news on your Tuesday morning? We have been busy translocating and monitoring lowland Leadbeater's possums. So far the trial results are looking positive and we are thrilled to share it with you.

@bradsey@kyliesoanes We use a FLIR T530 it works really well, can tell (on cold days) if a nest box is occupied from the ground, can tell if some hollows are occupied (depending where the nest is inside the hollow) and records photos/videos
1/3. BIG conservation news for the lowland Leadbeater's Possum! 📢 A translocation trial is underway that involves moving a third of the world’s population of Critically Endangered lowland Leadbeater’s Possums to a new forest home in Victoria’s north east.

How do you decide where to search for undetected populations of a cryptic, and critically endangered species across vast areas? Using a combination of SDMs and decision support tools – this paper led by @ArabellaEyre shows you how https://t.co/z9D22zx5qM
@timbawden@consbiog It's a really interesting area. There have now been quite a few LBP searches up there to no avail. But the story of a possum shot off the roof of a gold miner's hut lives on. Watch out for abandoned mining shafts!
It's been a while in the making, but the paper from my masters has been published in @consbiog!
We paired SDMs with decision tools to direct surveys for the critically endangered Leadbeater's possum outside its range. https://t.co/CNEwC6Wpz4
@KateLSenior@DrShaneRRR Mine was 48 hours, I got it back this morning. Other friends who got tested at different places at about the same time still haven’t received their results, even though they had positive RATs.
Pleased to say that my masters research has been published in @AnimalConserv. We examined the thermal suitability and occupancy of artificial dens for Leadbeater’s possum across habitat types and during temperature extremes

Have any other ecologists tried making a camera trap with a #RaspberryPi? I’m interested to see how well the infrared cameras work and if they had many problems in the field
