Making neuromodulation predictable

[Arbor Neuroscience @ArborNeuro]

We're hiring across neuroscience, engineering, clinical research and operations: https://t.co/SFkEnhYW4l

[Arbor Neuroscience @ArborNeuro]

Brain stimulation can work remarkably well for treating brain disease. But we can't predict who it helps, or say why it fails for everyone else.
We're building the instruments, data, and models to make neuromodulation predictable.

[Arbor Neuroscience @ArborNeuro]

We build on what @SumnerLN and Tyson Aflalo created at Forest — a wearable functional ultrasound system to measure activity across the human brain.

We're a Focused Research Organization within @Convergent_FROs. Thanks to @AGamick and @AdamMarblestone for backing this transition.

[Ashlee Vance @ashleevance]

Let's go ahead and freak you out this week. Brain implant maker @ForestNeurotech is finding that people in comas can indeed hear and understand what's going on around them.

[John Cumbers @johncumbers]

I recently caught up with @Replacing_Aging, and if you're curious about the future of the brain or how we might actually stop aging, you’ll want to hear what he has to say.

Jean is the author of Replacing Aging, a bold exploration of how we could extend life by replacing brain components with advanced tech. While the book is now a bit outdated (technology moves fast!), the core ideas still hold strong, and the science has only gotten more exciting.

Jean will be sharing the latest advances in brain replacement technology at #SynBioBeta2025 during the session "The Neural Frontier: Pioneering Tomorrow’s Brain Technologies" on Tuesday, May 6 from 1:35–2:05 PM PT, joined by fellow neurotech leaders @SumnerLN (@ForestNeurotech),@maxhodak_ (Science), @eboyden3 (Synlife), @jeannefrances (@scrippsresearch), and @Andrew_C_Payne (@E11BIO).

@junaxup Thanks, Jun! 🚀 🧠

[Sumner L Norman @SumnerLN]

📰 Featured in The Guardian: With support from @ARIA_research investment in precision neurotechnologies, we’re thrilled to announce @ForestNeurotech's role in the UK’s first NHS clinical trial of an ultrasound-powered whole-brain interface. 🧠

[Sumner L Norman @SumnerLN]

🚀We’re hiring! @ForestNeurotech is looking for a Software Engineering Lead to build the core systems powering our ultrasound neurotech platform.

As a nonprofit FRO, we're advancing science for public good. If you’re excited about neurotech & impact let’s talk. 🌍🧠 Link below

@ForestNeurotech Whole-brain interfaces
@CultivariumFRO Synthetic biology tools for microrganisms
@EvEBiotech Large-scale drug target profiling

[Science Philanthropy Alliance @SciPhilOrg]

Congrats to Forest Neurotech on receiving $14M in funding to create next-generation brain-computer interfaces for individuals with neurological injuries or diseases. Their novel noninvasive approach has a wide range of potential applications, from mitigating seizures to treating severe depression.

Forest Neurotech is funded through Convergent Research (@Convergent_FROs), with funds from former Google CEO @ericschmidt. Griffin Catalyst, the philanthropic organization of Citadel CEO Ken Griffin, the Riley & Susan Bechtel Foundation, and James Fickel also support Forest Neurotech.

This initiative is notable because Forest Neurotech (https://t.co/1ueh4Yx0Rw) is a new breed of #nonprofit #startup called a Focused Research Organization or FRO. Convergent Research pioneered this structure to support #moonshot efforts that create new scientific tools and datasets. These tools, research, and data will be shared with the broader scientific community, aligning with a commitment to open science.

You can read all about it here: https://t.co/zL0aUXLbIP

[Butterfly Network @ButterflyNetInc]

“@ForestNeurotech...launched this year to address psychiatric and cognitive disorders. The nonprofit startup is aiming to miniaturize ultrasound in a neural implant. It’s actively working on a 1st-gen device with partner Butterfly Network."

Thanks @WIRED for a great BCI roundup!

[Tom Kalil @tkalil2050]

@Convergent_FROs @ForestNeurotech Congrats to @ForestNeurotech for their progress on this game-changing technology for neuroscience and brain health using minimally-invasive focused ultrasound. I hope more philanthropists will support Focused Research Organizations.

[Convergent Research @Convergent_FROs]

@ForestNeurotech is developing a novel ultrasound-based brain computer interface that can sense and modulate the whole brain without penetrating it

[Adam Marblestone @AdamMarblestone]

Extremely excited about @ForestNeurotech's work to transform neurotechnology with minimally invasive ultrasound.

[Anastasia Gamick @AGamick]

Continually proud of and impressed by @ForestNeurotech

I've been able to spend some time in their labs lately - it's amazing to see the progress that they've made in a small amount of time.

[Sumner L Norman @SumnerLN]

Im so thrilled to share @ForestNeurotech’s supporters: Eric Schmidt, Griffin Catalyst, the philanthropic organization of Citadel CEO Kenneth C. Griffin, the Riley & Susan Bechtel Foundation, and James Fickel.

Thank you all for making Forest a reality!

Lots of activity in the implantable neurotech startup space this last year. Check out this recap by @emilylmullin in @WIRED. Definitely feeling like a movement, and I expect even more activity in 2024.

[Sumner L Norman @SumnerLN]

Loving the "good vibrations" heading 😂 Thanks for sharing our work with the world, @emilylmullin & co at @WIRED! 🔊🔊🔊

"Forest Neurotech in Los Angeles also launched this year to [...] miniaturize ultrasound in a neural implant."
