I am deeply troubled by the recent reports alleging that dozens of protesters in Pakistan were killed by the national government, who are also being charged with covering up the horrendous act and unjustly imprisoning hundreds of other protesters.
These serious accusations must be investigated and addressed by @StateDept and our international partners.
The Honourable,
Donald J Trump,
45th & 47th President of
The United States of America.
In continuation of my letter of 14th July 2024 of condemnation of the assassination attempt on you during your victorious campaign.
Free & fair, unrigged elections have allowed the expression of the will & hope of the citizens of America to make their dreams come true through your leadership.
On behalf of the people of my country, and as the 13th President of Pakistan I would like to congratulate you on your resounding victory to 'Make America Great Again'.
We look forward to continued cooperation as democratic nations. Indeed, your victory must have sent shivers down the spine of dictators and aspiring dictators of the world.
You have been a good friend of Pakistan and on behalf of @ImranKhanPTI, I extend our good wishes to you to continue your excellent efforts for global peace. The world is troubled by war in Ukraine and in Palestine, and its repercussions have hurt Pakistan and my people.
You are a man of your word. Good wishes and good luck.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Arif Alvi
13th President of Pakistan (2018-2024)
@realDonaldTrump
Congratulations on behalf of myself & PTI to @realDonaldTrump for winning the US Presidential Elections. The will of the American people held against all odds.
President Elect Trump will be good for Pak-US relations based on mutual respect for democracy & human rights. We hope he will push for peace, human rights and democracy globally.
I am proud to have joined my colleagues in urging the Biden administration to support human rights and democracy in #Pakistan and calling for the release of #ImranKhan and other political prisoners.
Once again, I call for the U.S. Ambassador to visit Imran Khan in jail.
Concern is mounting over the health of Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who has spent over a year in a squalid prison cell https://t.co/MvupBLRdMn
Trying to bring this to the attention of UK Foreign Secretary @DavidLammy who is - as yet - unresponsive.
(Annoyingly, I don’t seem to be as well connected & in control as the conspiracy theorists in Pakistan suggest I am)
I usually don’t comment on Pakistani politics. I disagree with IK on many political issues. But this is not about politics- it’s about my children’s father, his human rights & international law. For the past few years, I’ve been bullied & harassed into silence by PML-N goons, including rape threats & countless conspiracy theories. Meanwhile Twitter/ X is banned in Pakistan, PTI party members & civilian supporters have been abducted, anyone with a platform who was speaking out is now in jail & silenced, Imran Khan’s photo and name have been censored on state television (they have even redacted his image from any coverage of Pakistan’s World Cup win of 92!)
I owe it to my children to try to create some awareness about what is happening in Pakistan. Please help in any way that you can. Thank you.
Message from Imran Khan’s ex wife @Jemima_Khan
“In the last few weeks there have been serious and concerning developments regarding my sons’ father, Imran Khan’s treatment in prison. The Pakistan authorities have stopped all visits to him by his family and his lawyers. They have also postponed all court hearings. In addition to cutting off in- person visits, and in defiance of a court order, his weekly calls to his sons, Sulaiman and Kasim Khan, who are British and who live in London, were stopped on 10th September. We have received reports that the authorities have now turned off the lights and electricity in his cell and he is no longer allowed to leave his cell at any time. The jail cook has been sent on leave. He is now completely isolated, in solitary confinement, literally in the dark, with no contact with the outside world. His lawyers are concerned about his safety and well-being.
These actions come in the context of ongoing targeting of Imran’s family, as well as his party (PTI) members and supporters in an attempt to silence them and all political opposition in Pakistan. Imran’s nephew, Hassan Niazi, a civilian, has been detained in military custody since August 2023. More recently, Imran Khan’s sisters, Uzma and Aleema Khan, who have continued to speak out on his behalf, have also been arrested as they made their way peacefully to a demonstration and they are currently being held in jail, despite there being no proper or lawful basis for their imprisonment.
In June this year the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention found that Imran is unlawfully and arbitrarily detained and called for his immediate release.
As a matter of urgency , we are calling for Imran Khan’s release, and for the release of his sisters and nephew as well as for his sons’ contact with their father to be re-established, so that they may have assurance first-hand that he is well and not being mistreated.”

I am so proud of all our people. Thank you for keeping the faith. You showed unfaltering resilience and courage as you came out yesterday & overcame unbelievable obstacles to keep marching forward towards D Chowk.
You fought through the fascist govt’s endless shelling and firing, you overcame the containers, the dug up motorway and the iron nails placed there to keep moving forward - the women and elderly men along with the youth all showing relentless strength & fortitude.
I am calling on everyone to keep heading to D chowk and join Ali Amin’s convoy. I especially want to commend our people from KP, North Punjab and Islamabad. You have defeated insurmountable obstacles, including shelling, chemicals fired from helicopters, trenches & nails on the motorway, with your determination and commitment.
I am also asking our people from Punjab to move towards Minar i Pakistan in Lahore. If they cannot make it there they must join the protests in their cities.
This is a fight for Haqeeqi Azadi so we can truly live as free citizens in our country within the Constitution & Rule of Law as envisaged by our Founder Quaid e Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah.
5th August marks a black day in the long history of the brutal Indian occupation of IIOJK. Today, 5 years ago, Modi's govt illegally ended the special status of IIOJK & unleashed a new wave of violence & oppression on the Kashmiri people. IIOJK was turned into an open prison cut off from the world as Indian Occupation forces attacked the Kashmiris with their military might including torture & arbitrary arrests.
5 years on, the UN & the international community have yet to act against India's continuing violations of international law, including international humanitarian laws, especially the Fourth Geneva Convention.
I call on the UNSC to fulfil its own obligations under the Charter & UNSC resolutions, reaffirming the right of the Kashmiri people to self-determination.
