Yesterday we discovered there are Premier League shirt numbers nobody has EVER worn. So naturally we went down a rabbit hole. 🐇

🔎 Permanent PL squad numbers arrived in 1993/94.

Since then, we can find just 14 occasions when a team has started with the actual squad numbers 1 through 11.

The last one?

BURNLEY v Liverpool - August 2021.

Pope 1, Lowton 2, Taylor 3, Cork 4, Tarkowski 5, Mee 6
Gudmundsson 7, Brownhill 8, Wood 9, Barnes 10, McNeil 11. Now isn't that Beautiful. 😂

But somebody went one better…
In 2000/01, Aberdeen's Hicham Zerouali actually wore No.0. His nickname was “Zero”, special permission was granted… and the number was subsequently banned. 😂

Meanwhile at the OTHER end of the scale, after yesterday's Bingo investigation, these are the updated PL numbers from 1–99 we still believe have NEVER actually been worn on the pitch and are the ones to watch across the season.........

79, 85, 88, 89, 90, 92, 94, 95, 96, 97, 99

From 0 to 99, football shirt numbers are considerably more ridiculous than expected.

Castleford Tigers end the Super League season having scored the fewest amount of points and conceding the most.

13th-placed finish for a side that has beaten Super League's top two. Can't think of a side that has thrown the towel in as often as this one.
