@jasonryanmd Did a modified Valsalva for svt once as a resident that was almost instantly successful in returning them to sinus. That was fun. Felt like a magician.
Hey #MedTwitter! Help an early career #hpm#hapc researcher out by completing this survey if you’re eligible. It takes under five minutes. Open to attendings in PC, ICU working with #ECMO patients: https://t.co/2pAxygvT3d
Insightful window into an #ECMO survivor’s experience. Wondering how creating a diary such as this might be helpful to the long term recovery of our patients with extremely long icu stays. #hpm#hapc#criticalcaresurvivorship
🖋 Diary of #ARDS#ECMO survivor "a record not just of procedures, treatments, clinical signs but of how I reacted, I appeared to feel & how I tried to communicate" "it helped me to appreciate outstanding care both I & my family received"

Apparently today is #WomenEqualityDay…
Here’s how #healthcare is doing:
💵74 cents on the dollar for female physician compensation compared to that of male physicians
👩🏻⚕️Only 37% of the US physician workforce are women
🤰🏻Female physicians have a higher infertility and pregnancy loss rate than non-physicians
👋🏼In EM, female physician attrition is 14 years earlier than that of male EM physicians
📚In academic medicine, women have higher attrition rates at every career stage
🚨Suicide deaths are 250 - 400% higher among female physicians as compared to females in other professions
😡Over 50% of female physicians formally report experiencing sexual harassment…so the real number is much higher
…not so hot, huh?

Excited to share this newest publication on incarcerated surrogate decision makers. It was such an honor to work with @HollandKaplan and Marc Robinson.

It took a truly interdisciplinary team to accomplish this work and excited to share. Can carbon #nanoparticles be used to lower #H2S in the body? Can similar approaches be used to lower H2S levels in #DownSyndrome? More work to do but excited nonetheless. https://t.co/9s0x5T3bz1

@ScholerinED Objective achieved (and your point taken)! I’d hope that in these situations our intensivist colleagues consider palliative care consults early on to mitigate distress associated with these situations. I think the role of #hapc also in provider distress can’t be understated.
@ScholerinED You can’t reduce such a complex subject to a few lines. There is hardly consensus regarding the definitions of futility or suffering & there’s hardly a situation I can imagine in which a physician could unilaterally declare care futile & a patient suffering. Cue #hpm#hapc
@ErikaHamilton9@OncoAlert An informal survey of palliative care physicians by @RexPaulinoMD showed very high job satisfaction (well above the line) despite also being a group seeing sick patients and having tough conversations. Wonder what differentiates the two groups….
@jtrebach According to @DGlaucomflecken palliative care (or our workroom) might smell like freshly baked cookies. And certainly enough - a PCU I worked in previously did in fact have freshly baked cookies for patients sometimes.
@thelakesshow @reelirishdancer While I see your point about what ACLS calls for, in a hospital setting it is typical for a hospital chaplain or other team member to provide spiritual support or emotional support during a code or with FPDR. Just because it isn’t in ACLS doesn’t mean it isn’t offered.
@SDietzMD@AAHPM I heard about a conference recently (wish I knew which) that managed to have iPads available in their multiple lactation rooms with livestreams of the conference! Also snacks, water and privacy. Amazing! Things to strive for!
I also heard that accommodations for nursing mothers could have used an upgrade 😬 @AAHPM#hapc23#hapc24
Accessibility, inclusion and an inviting space for all should be #hpm priorities
Something I would love to see for #hapc24 is a more intentional approach to accessibility. Items such as slide formatting for presentation, noise considerations for meeting locations, and transition time between sessions are all examples off the top of my head. #hapc23
