Congratulations to my former student, Dan Peluso, for being named a semifinalist for the 2025-26 Fulbright Scholars Program! His innovative project, “Celestial Harmonies,” blending music and Aboriginal sky knowledge, is a testament to his creativity and dedication. Well done, Dan! https://t.co/xzJuyvSK4e

Griffin Academy educator @AstroPartyDan is a semifinalist for the 2025-26 U.S. Fulbright Scholars Program.
"This remarkable recognition highlights Dr. Peluso’s dedication to education, science, and the arts, further cementing his role as an innovative leader within our school community and beyond," said GTA Schools in a press release.
Peluso, an astrophysicist, educator, and musician, was chosen for his project proposal, "Celestial Harmonies: Blending Modern Pop & Traditional Music to Share Aboriginal Sky Knowledge."
The Fulbright Scholars Program, established in 1946, is one of the most competitive and respected international exchange programs, fostering collaboration and cultural diplomacy across more than 160 countries.
Peluso has also been accepted as an Affiliate for the SETI Institute’s Artist in Residence program. The AIR program fosters collaboration between scientists and artists to engage the public through creative, science-driven projects.
He has deferred the start of his artist-in-residence affiliation while awaiting the final decision on his Fulbright application, which is expected to be announced this month or April.
from the vault... I had forgotten this first attempt to see the ISS passing in front of the moon with our @unistellar telescope in 2019 and this video made by Daniel Peluso, then my graduate student. Fun time! Thanks to the @muse for letting us used their fantastic music.
🎆Another publication in Nature! 🎆
We are proud to announce the publication of another paper in Nature, featuring contributions from several citizen scientists within our UNISTELLAR network! The research focuses on the discovery of a hot-Jupiter progenitor, TIC 241249530 b, which is on a super-eccentric retrograde orbit. This unique planet, monitored by TESS and followed up with ground-based observations, provides key insights into the formation and migration of giant exoplanets. Congratulations to everyone involved in this stellar achievement 👏!

Two citizen scientist groups (including high school students) contributed to academic studies confirming the existence of different planet candidates. One project was led by @AstroPartyDan and the other by @astro_sgro, both using the @Unistellar Network.
A group of high school astronomy students helped confirm and characterize a planet slightly smaller than Saturn that closely orbits its star.
