As a fan of LOTR films (certainly watched them like 20 times myself and I'm a fan of the books), I have to say Dune without a doubt. Yes, the best trilogy ever put to film (so far).

But Tolkien's world view doesn't hold up in my eyes, this is might be reductive yes, but is basically good vs evil in a way no modern adult should take seriously, I get that people want to scape reality. I'm not one of those people. Dune is a warning about charismatic leader, messianic figures and religion itself, intellectually I don't think there is a contest. Villeneuve is also the better director, the modern Kubrick. Even Zendaya's presence isn't enough to spoil them in my eyes.
