We had SURE-P under Jonathan, and under Buhari, we had N-Power, TraderMoni, the school feeding programme, and several major infrastructure projects.

Buhari’s administration constructed the Abuja–Kaduna railway, Lagos–Ibadan railway, Itakpe–Warri railway, the Lekki Deep Sea Port, and the Second Niger Bridge. His government also approved bailout funds for 27 states, paid ₦72 billion to Rivers State for federal road projects executed under Rotimi Amaechi, paid the 13% derivation to oil-producing states in the Niger Delta, and continued paying fuel and electricity subsidies.

Despite all these expenses, the government also spent heavily to defend the naira and support education.

So, with all the money saved from the removal of fuel and electricity subsidies and other policies, can someone point to one major achievement of Tinubu’s administration that compares with Buhari’s?

To me, Tinubu’s administration has been a disaster, and I do not believe he deserves another opportunity to lead Nigeria.

Where is Professor Amupitan?

I don't know him, and we never met.
I have no reason to wish to meet him, either. When they nominated him as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the nation received the shocking disclosure of his 2020 legal brief to the international community in which he claimed that the violence in the country was a Muslim pogrom against Christians.

The violence affected and still affects followers of all religions and speakers of every language.

For this reason, I, among many others, felt bad about the assertion he made and assumed that he was not a good choice for that office. This country's elections had incrementally got better with each new leadership.

Professor Jega gave the nation its best election since the disputed June 12, 1993, that produced Chief MKO Abiola, now recognised as a duly elected president who did not, however, take the office.

Professor Mahmud Yakubu did the impossible by rallying the civil society, CSOs, and local and foreign observers to approve all his elections.

Not one election under him was ever rejected by any serious observer or CSO.
Now, look at what has just happened in Osun state. Under Amupitan's leadership, the country has attained a transparent electoral process.

Everyone - civil society, the EU, local and foreign observers are commending this standout performance, praising the exceptional skill and determination to improve the process as manifested by INEC's seamless uploading of the governorship election results to its IReV.

With all the loud acclaim that followed, however, I have been asking myself, where is the captain of the ship, Professor Amupitan?

He hasn't picked the microphone, 48 hours hence, or appeared before the TV cameras to proudly show off the success. Where is he?

We are a country of wilful behaviour, chest beating public officials who are proudly and aggressively proclaiming success without achieving half of what we are talking about here. Where is he?

We are not used to seeing this kind of humility, patience, and restraint. Isn't it fair that the man should come out of his shell and dance to the drums in celebration?

Davido seems to understand how to fight APC.

He threatened to report Tinubu to Trump over the freezing of Edo State account and Tinubu immediately called EFCC to unfreeze the account.

Monday Okpebholo called his uncle a dancing governor, and Davido replied by dropping Monday's parallel D7 WAEC result. Okpebholo never reply again.

Bashir Ahmad mocked him for not winning a Grammy, and Davido told him that he's achieved a lot and Bashir's just a small boy who came into politics by accident. Till now, Bashir didn't reply.

Davido cautioned Hope Uzodimma and advised him to embrace peace during his campaigns in Osun State. Hope Uzodimma said Davido is a son to him and also an in-law, he's only coming to Osun in the capacity of APC campaign director and he's not coming to cause trouble.

It's like we really underrated Davido's motion.

Rehabilitate Existing Infrastructure Before Embarking on New Projects

I have consistently advised governments at all levels to prioritise rehabilitating existing infrastructure before embarking on new projects that may also end up abandoned or left unfinished. For expressing this position, I have often been criticised and called all sorts of names. Yet, it remains the most responsible approach to governance.

It is therefore noteworthy that President Bola Tinubu has now cautioned state governors against committing scarce public resources to constructing unnecessary flyovers in areas with little traffic while neglecting more pressing developmental needs.

The President is, in essence, saying what I have always maintained: government must prioritise projects that directly address the immediate needs of the people. I hope those ministers, officials, and supporters who have consistently attacked this position will now direct the same criticism at him.

However, this admonition must also apply to the Federal Government. There are several unrealistic and white-elephant projects being pursued by the current administration, even as much of our critical infrastructure remains in a state of disrepair. Given our present fiscal realities, priority should be given to rehabilitating and completing existing infrastructure rather than embarking on expensive new projects with limited immediate impact.

Across Nigeria, many of our major highways linking commercial centres and food-producing communities have deteriorated into death traps. Neglecting these critical roads while pursuing prestige projects is neither economically prudent nor people-centred.

This philosophy guided my administration as Governor of Anambra State. I prioritised completing viable projects initiated by my predecessors before embarking on new ones. Government is a continuum, and development should never be measured by who starts a project, but by whether it is completed and serves the people.

Leadership is about making the right choices: fixing what is broken, completing what has already been started, and investing limited public resources where they will have the greatest impact on the greatest number of people.
