US defence secretary Pete Hegseth said the execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, which is set to take place on December 3, would be "public".

Donald Trump earlier this week approved the method of execution for Hasan, a former army major who killed 13 soldiers in a shooting spree at Fort Hood military base in 2009.

Hasan said the attack was in retaliation for US wars in the Middle East and to protect Taliban fighters in Afghanistan.
