🇺🇸 Attalon has received a $17.1 million contract modification for continued development of advanced pulsed fiber lasers and high-power directed energy subsystems for future U.S. Navy capabilities under the SONGBOW program.

The modification was awarded by the U.S. Department of the Navy's Office of Naval Research (ONR) under the SONGBOW program.

Under the award, Attalon will continue developing pulsed fiber lasers for remote sensing and illumination while further maturing a 400 kW-class directed energy subsystem through the integration of a 50 kW laser with a high-performance beam control assembly. The work will be led by Attalon’s Directed Energy & Advanced Lasers team in Beavercreek, Ohio, where the company is advancing scalable laser and beam control technologies.

U.S. firm Attalon has introduced its new Valaris family of directed-energy laser systems, offering multiple power levels for different military applications.

The lineup combines Attalon’s coherent, spectral and dichroic beam-combining technologies. The highest-powered variant, Valaris X, is a 50-kW-class laser architecture with adaptive optics that is reportedly scalable beyond 300 kW for long-range directed-energy missions.

Valaris S provides 30-kW-class output and is designed to scale to 50 kW while maintaining beam quality and production efficiency. At the lower end, Valaris D offers 10-kW-class performance for missions requiring less power.

Attalon says the modular product family is intended to give system integrators flexibility in selecting the laser architecture and power level best suited to specific mission requirements, while focusing on manufacturability, maintainability and operational readiness.
