@Yesitisthatbad let me try & help you with this one, as the genetic-distance argument is a red herring that misses the forest for the trees. No one claims the exact RaTG13 strain was directly engineered into SARS-CoV-2. The issue is far bigger:

The Wuhan Institute of Virology - a lab with known safety lapses, military ties, & a history of bat coronavirus work - received U.S. taxpayer dollars (via EcoHealth/NIAID grants) for risky gain-of-function-style research on SARS-like viruses.

This happened right where the pandemic exploded. Researchers there fell ill with COVID-like symptoms in late 2019. The lab-leak hypothesis was actively suppressed early on, while natural-origin claims were amplified despite thin evidence at the time. That’s a fact.

Tulsi Gabbard’s ODNI declassifications (not fringe theories) include emails, notes & records showing Fauci’s involvement in funding this work, influencing intelligence assessments on origins…and contradicting his own congressional testimony!

That’s not a “wild goose chase.” That’s documented U.S. funding of high-risk research at a sloppy foreign lab, followed by apparent stonewalling. Taxpayers deserve full accountability & transparency, regardless of exact strain matches. The proximity, safety record & cover-up patterns matter far more than one mismatched backbone virus.

Deflecting with genetics while ignoring the rest is exactly how accountability gets avoided.
