A follow-up. I just received a phone call from a FedEx supervisor. I have to congratulate FedEx on how it trains its people to toe the company line. There is nothing they can do, there is nothing they want to do, and there is nothing to help the customer. Well done, FedEx! Well done; you have made your company the worst in customer service amongst all the package delivery people. At least you are first in something.
@FedEx@FedExHelp
Why doesn't FedEx offer "vacation holds" any longer? USPS does. UPS will forward to a UPS Store. They only offer to send an incoming package to a local FedEx Office store, similar to UPS, which is ok, but completely different from UPS: the FedEx store will only hold the package for 5 business days, then you are S.O.L. (when it absolutely, positively has to be there, but for only a short time). What do you do if you are away for more than 5 business days? And if I understood correctly, it is not a general forward; it is on a package-by-package basis.
Now I know why they ditched their slogans:
"Our most important package is yours"
"Relax, it's FedEx"
And what about their "Purple Promise" - "I will make every FedEx experience outstanding"
HA! Just another corporation that puts their "system" before customers' needs...so much for an outstanding experience!
Thank you for your reply, but I find it difficult to believe Best Buy, a huge corporation, has a customer service social media team of
@CustomerServiceTeam @luckyrabbit1958 with 2 followers and following 20. But if so, this would explain their customer service.
But Anne, thank you for your reply.
@BestBuy, I’ve discovered something remarkable: once you place an online order, apparently it becomes sacred—untouchable, unchangeable, and immune to common sense.
A very short thread about my Best Buy Catch-22:
1/ I ordered a phone online at 9 PM and selected pickup within 1 hour. The order included a trade-in, and roughly half the purchase was paid with $1,000 in Best Buy gift e-cards.
I knew the store was closed and expected to pick it up the next day. No problem.
2/ I received the “preparing your order” email and followed the status throughout the next day.
Then, mid-afternoon, “pickup within 1 hour” suddenly became:
Available for pickup August 27.
Small problem: I leave for an overseas trip on August 25 and will be gone for 2½ weeks.
3/ So I contacted Best Buy customer support. Three times (2 different call handlers and one manager). I was even disconnected once during a transfer.
Surely there was an easy solution, right?
Ship it instead? The website shows delivery by 8/22.
No.
Change the color to one that’s available sooner?
No.
Apparently the order itself cannot be changed. Only the pickup location can be changed.
Hence my description of the Best Buy order as “sacred.”
4/ Fine. Cancel it, go to a store, and buy another color in person.
Ah, but here comes the Best Buy Catch-22:
The Best Buy credit card portion takes 24–48 hours to be credited back to my account. That’s ok, I get it, every credit card works this way—I have enough available credit to buy another phone.
But the $1,000 in Best Buy gift e-cards can take 24–72 BUSINESS HOURS to be refunded to the original gift cards.
5/ So Best Buy can’t provide the phone when promised.
Best Buy can’t change the order to delivery—even though delivery currently shows 8/22.
Best Buy can’t change the color.
And if I cancel, Best Buy may hold up $1,000 of my gift-card funds long enough that I can’t use them to buy a replacement before my trip.
Those gift cards were purchased specifically for this phone.
6/ So my choices appear to be:
Keep an order I can’t pick up.
Cancel it and potentially lose access to $1,000 of my own purchasing power until after I need the phone.
Or buy the phone somewhere else and eventually end up with $1,000 in Best Buy gift cards I never otherwise intended to have.
Bravo.
If Catch-22 hadn’t already been made into a movie, I’d suggest this as the plot.
@BestBuy, there has to be someone empowered to apply a little common sense here. Can you actually fix this?
@Wawa Why am I still paying $3.99/gal. (yesterday 7/10/26) at Wawa stores is SE. PA when February gas pricing averaged $2.75/gal.-$2.99/gal.? Crude oil barrel pricing in February was very similar to current prices (high $60s)?
Seems prices are very quick to go up when crude goes up, but much, much slower going down to reflect lower crude prices.
Why? Why? I think we know why...and for a family-owned, privately held company, this should not be the way.
Shame on you!
