Christ is the Word of God & worthy of worship. The Bible is a tool left for us to learn & struggle with. One must be guided by the Spirit or things can get messs quickly. It is not light reading. It is not a plain text like a newspaper. It demands to be taken seriously.
@ExciledFrogMan @HatchForTexas @ZachWLambert@gabrielhaynes I’m ceasing this conversation with you. The reason being is that I see you’re a geocentrist. All of the things you’ve said to me could be flipped back onto you for that reason alone and a serious conversation cannot be had at the moment.
All the best,
Awkwardly Bowing Out
@HatchForTexas @ZachWLambert@ExciledFrogMan@gabrielhaynes I’m going to take a wild guess and say that the winter beanie on your head or at least one article of clothing in your profile pic is made of a blended fabric. According to Leviticus, it’s prohibited. Gotta read the Bible, man!
@NSanctification @christianinai @farmingandJesus If you can produce evidence, I’ll buy it. But to the contrary point, in the gospels He denounce the Pharisaical public prayers as hollow displays and when He prayed, He went off by Himself.
@farmingandJesus Jesus is secretive of His identity in the synoptic gospels (“The Messianic Secret”). People openly bowing would’ve brought unwanted attention during critical moments of the ministry. It also clashes w/the image He took of the servant, something He was modeling for us to imitate.
I’d add that Sola Scriptura can lend to the practice of Scripture>people. Like when Jesus questions, “was the sabbath made for people or people for sabbath?”
When you care more about people, I think you’ll find yourself getting less angry & defensive over textual disagreements
The funny thing about sola scriptura is the moment after Luther invented it the Reformers immediately went a dozen different directions cause they couldn’t agree whose sola scriptura was the right sola scriptura
@KrrankyPants @SaitaBoston44 @QTWIQ@farmingandJesus Reread what I said. I’m not justifying worship. I don’t agree with Saint veneration. I’m just pointing out that they don’t view it as a form of polytheistic worship. They really do see it as just like picking up a phone and calling a trusted friend.
@SaitaBoston44 @QTWIQ@KrrankyPants@farmingandJesus …theoretically, they have passed on and are closer to God. It’s really no different than calling up a friend and asking them to pray for you about a concern or issue you have. They’re petitioning for prayer from the Saints, not praying to them. (2/2).
@SaitaBoston44 @QTWIQ@KrrankyPants@farmingandJesus And it’s no one’s job to gate keep. Your job is to point to the Gate and love people. That’s it.
For clarification, the Catholic Church doesn’t pray to Mary or saints, at least not in the same way as one does to God. It’s a way of passing on prayer requests since (1/2)
@BenZeisloft She was a government worker who refused to perform her duty in a discriminatory fashion. She deserves to be sued. The acts of consenting adults have no business having laws sanctioned against them or being treated any less than the “norm”.
@farmingandJesus I have questions:
1. What other things are called abominations & why?
2. Why was this considered as such such to the audience at the time of writing?
3. Is “love your neighbor”, one of the Big 2 “laws”, being broken when someone exposes others to preventable diseases?
