The ego boosts and negs I take as a pastor are remarkable. Every Saturday night I field excuse after excuse for why people won’t do what they promised and know is being counted on.
@Elex_Michaelson@XavierBecerra Suspend the gas tax? Your theory is that we don’t need to maintain roads and bridges or environmental standards for a bit because it’s expensive? And people already driving on subsidized roads need more welfare? Hmmm
Reminder, this is paid for by Californians!
Texas: a taker state (roughly $70 billion more than what they GIVE to the federal government)
California: a giver state (roughly $80 billion more than we RECEIVE from the federal government)
This is why I hate working with these groups. More often than not they use the local church for connections and fundraising, but the relationship is all one way. When they’re no longer benefiting they are gone. It’s a shame cause it could be a great partnership.
I had someone reach out from a nationally known youth organization last week. They were planning to start work in a local high school and wanted to network to see if there might be mutual benefit. So we set up a lunch meeting.
It’s 1:40 on Sunday afternoon. I’ve led a Bible study, preached a worship service, counseled during a fellowship time (maybe 10 people with needs), prayed over and with 10 people during the fellowship time, and scheduled my social media for the week including sermon clips.
I have a friend who anytime he travels for work posts pic after pic of all the bars and alcohol. He just found out his teenage daughter has a drinking problem. And he can’t figure out what happened. I have an idea….
Small scale financial support is substantially down recently in my church. Like the last 3-4 months. It’s probably down 20-30%. Anyone else seeing this. Big givers are same or increasing. Is this people getting squeezed by inflation?
@erichoke This happens. But I doubt it’s because no one ‘taught’ them to be friendly. This is a basic social skill. What you likely experienced is the people from the church itself are needy. I know it’s frustrating. But it is reality, not just in churches but all over the place.
@cnieuwhof Does this mean handing over essential tasks to staff and support roles to volunteers? Or do you think in this day volunteers can manage essentials while also holding two jobs, volunteering in the schools and living a balanced life? (Serious question)
