It is with profound sadness that we have received the heartbreaking news of a tragic road traffic accident that occurred this evening at Bobi Trading Centre along the Kampala–Gulu Highway.
Preliminary reports indicate that an Opit Travellers bus traveling from Kampala to Gulu was involved in a collision with a lorry. Sadly, several lives are feared to have been lost, while many others sustained serious injuries.
As leaders, we shall await an official statement from the relevant authorities who have visited the scene before commenting further on the details of the tragedy.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones, those who are nursing injuries, and everyone affected by this devastating incident. We pray that God grants strength, comfort, and courage to the bereaved during this difficult time, and we ask Him to give a swift and complete recovery to the injured.
May the souls of those who have lost their lives rest in eternal peace. This is a heartbreaking tragedy, and we stand in solidarity with all those affected.
Last_Week: Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit observed the “All Babies day celebration” led by our Senior Consultant Pediatrician - Dr. Nambuya Harriet(…with support from the Africa Neonatal Network). Our Senior Executive Consultant Dr @Yayialfred was our guest of honor.
I want to commend and thank the Team @HeartUganda, led by Dr. John Omagino, for successfully conducting 17 free closed-heart operations among children in Busoga, last week at @JinjaRRH. This was the third heart surgical camp held in Jinja. I am informed that this is the highest number of patients ever operated on during a single regional surgical camp. It is a noble gesture intervening into the lives of leaders of tomorrow. I thank you on behalf of the Kyabazinga and the great people of Busoga.
The #NDPIV highlights the essence of human capital development, particularly health, for the achievement of the ten-growth ambition. Further, decentralisation of cardiovascular health services across the country is vital in mitigating heart defects, like the Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), that was handled at this particular camp, the commonest congenital heart disease defect in children. I also thank the proactive leadership of @JinjaRRH for allocating land to the future Regional Cardiac Center serving Busoga sub-region.
These efforts augment cardiovascular efforts at the national level, like the construction of the 250-bed Uganda Heart Institute Hospital at Naguru, that is on schedule for completion. Once completed, this facility will expand Uganda’s capacity to provide advanced cardiovascular care, training, research and innovation & also reduce the need for costly referrals abroad.
I appreciate all stakeholders in this noble cause, including: His Excellency @KagutaMuseveni ; @KingNadiopeIV of Busoga; @GovUganda ; @mofpedU ; PS/ST @rggoobi ; @henrymusasizi1; @MinofHealthUG ; The Board; Top Management & Staff of @HeartUganda and the Great people of Busoga.
Let us continue to implement and synergise towards Uganda’s socioeconomic transformation.
This year's Closed Heart Surgery camp registered the highest number of surgeries with 17 babies successfully operated on between 29th June and 3rd July.
Through this partnership, 8 surgeries were conducted in 2024 and 12 children received life saving surgeries last year.
In partnership with @HeartUganda, the Hospital successfully hosted its 3rd Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Camp, where 17 children received life saving heart surgeries.
Today, these children have a renewed chance at healthier, more active lives bringing hope & relief to their families
