Breaking news: DMS Math Counts team won 2nd place at the state competition- pretty sure this is the best ever win for BCPS!🥈So proud of our kids! More info to come- @BaltCoPS@BCPSMATH@MrsPotterMath@SantosBCPS
This morning with @BCPSMATH we talked about how our students are accessing quadratic functions and the many entry points they could use to solve their math tasks.
We also talked about strategies to progress them toward the grade level standards of these task.
Thanks to @BCPSMATH’s Math Language Routine PD, we started our lesson with a compare & contrast activity, “What doesn’t belong?” Added bonus, it took us straight into our doubling & halving problem string! @timbergroveES
4th grade students had a field trip to the Science Center. While we got to dive deeper into our science unit, we also got to explore our upcoming MATH unit- geometry & measurement! Students loved seeing the connections between the two subjects!!
Lamar in a Car returns to Room 27 ☺️
Former students told their younger siblings to be on the lookout for Lamar in a Car once the @Ravens started their playoff drive. Kids were so excited to see him when they came to math this week!
@MFAnnie@sollerspt Because of the previous activities, many students were calculating exact numbers. One potential idea might be to lose the "1/3" for the prediction, then add it to calculate the table.
On Monday I had a first in my teaching career… all feeder schools in one place!
Thank you @BCPSMATH for sharing your standard progression activity with us. The math teams definitely enjoyed seeing where these standards fell in the progression from 5 to Algebra.
Lots of professional learning by @BaltCoPS math teachers these last two days. We can't wait to hear how students benefit from your experience! Thanks @NCTM for hosting and providing this opportunity for us to learn and grow. #NCTMDC23
