These can be seasonal or temporary too. A barge festival, marinas, fireworks, giant snowmen, a floating duck, saunas floating in the rivers...Whatever you can imagine.

Something that we don't examine enough in urban design is the spatial condition. Something truly extraordinary for Pittsburgh which sits in a valley around the rivers. Here's a look at the visual/spatial core vs districts of Downtown + environs.

An opportunity becomes clear is that if we place tall or striking landmarks - buildings, artworks etc - in the visual core, they becomes a part of Downtown as a whole, enhancing the identity of the entire core. Think the backdrop at PNC, the Incline, bridges. We should do more.
