1. The core building
Along the Coquiwaldie Rd frontage, between the substation and the four halls, sits what looks like the network core building. It has three rooftop cooling units, a lot of cooling for a building this size, which points to core routers, switches and carrier gear inside.
2. Two entrances
Two large cabinets on the building wall each have a group of four conduits heading out toward the halls. Four halls, four conduits per group: that maps to one A path and one B path for every hall, kept physically separate so a single fault can't take out both.
3. Its own backup power
Two generators on a dedicated pad beside the building back up the network core separately from the halls' 2.5MW generators. If the grid drops, the network stays up.
4. The carrier handoff
Near the road, a small prefab shelter with a manhole, mixed-size conduits and a propane tank looks like a carrier termination point, where outside fiber lands before being handed to IREN.
5. Close to the power
The core building sits near IREN's on-site substation and across the yard from the data halls, so fiber runs to each hall are short.
Why this matters:
1. AI cloud customers pay for uptime. A single fiber cut on a remote site can mean dropped training runs, failed inference calls and SLA penalties.
2. Northern BC has historically depended on thin fiber routes. Two independent paths mean a backhoe, a wildfire or a pole fire on one route doesn't take the site offline.
3. Redundant power, cooling and network are what separates a data center that hosts compute from one that can sign long-term customer contracts.
4. It's far cheaper to build the second path before the GPUs go live than after.
Redundant power, cooling, and now fiber: Mackenzie is being built to STAY up and running.
$IREN
Mackenzie's Fiber Network: Why $IREN built dual, physically diverse fiber paths into the site.
IREN's own site description says Mackenzie has "dual, physically diverse fiber paths." In 2024, IREN's COO said the town fibre partnership with the District of Mackenzie would provide dual redundancy for its data centers.
Footage from 9/23 shows where that infrastructure appears to sit. Details will be limited due to how critical this infrastructure is.
Necesitamos: ejecución + nuevos contratos + financiación no dilutiva.
U.S.-RUSSIA UKRAINE TALKS EXPAND TO MULTIBILLION-DOLLAR OIL DEAL
Trump administration talks with Russia over ending the Ukraine war have expanded to include a potential multibillion-dollar deal involving Lukoil’s global oil assets, Reuters reports, citing the NYT.
The deal requires U.S. and Kremlin approval and was reportedly raised by Vladimir Putin during a September meeting with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

Data halls are numbered 1–4 from the top of the pic to the bottom.
The four long gray boxes running perpendicular to each hall on the left side appear to be utility vaults over the main electrical corridor that brings the 34.5kv power in from the on-site substation. (will show in later post)
Dan Roberts confirmed on the FY26 call that GPUs are racked in two buildings. Based on exterior progress and my opinion, halls 1, 2 & 3 all seem to have GPUs racked. (I will explain more on this later)
Mackenzie includes four 20MW data halls that are energized by BC Hydro through IREN's own on-site 34.5KV substation with redundant power provided by 32 2.5MW diesel generators. Each of those data halls has eight segments comprised of the following:
-Concrete Pad
-MER (Modular Electrical Room)
-34.5KV to 480V Step-Down Transformer
-2.5MW Diesel Generator (backup power)
-ATS/Distribution Panel (interconnected to grid power from step-down transformer, generator, MER and distribution lines to server racks as well as ATS or Automatic Transfer Switch)
Level of Completeness:
Data Hall 1:
-8 of 8 concrete pads poured
-8 of 8 MERs in place
-8 of 8 2.5MW diesel generators in place
-8 of 8 34.5kV to 480V stepdown transformers in place
-34.5kV utility vault enclosure in place
-1 of 8 ATS/Distribution Panels in place
- Large amount of cabling run, but not terminated
Data Hall 2:
-8 of 8 concrete pads poured
-7 of 8 MERs in place
-6 of 8 2.5MW diesel generators in place
-8 of 8 34.5kV to 480V stepdown transformers in place
-34.5kV utility vault enclosure in place
-0 of 8 ATS/Distribution Panels in place
- Large amount of cabling run, but not terminated
Data Hall 3:
-8 of 8 concrete pads poured
-8 of 8 MERs in place
-6 of 8 2.5MW diesel generators in place
-8 of 8 34.5kV to 480V stepdown transformers in place
-34.5kV utility vault enclosure in place
-3 of 8 ATS/Distribution Panels in place
- Large amount of cabling run, but not terminated
Data Hall 4: furthest from completion
-3 of 8 concrete pads poured; the other 5 are formed and may be poured by now
-0 of 8 MERs in place
-0 of 8 2.5MW diesel generators in place
-8 of 8 step-down transformers in place
-34.5kV utility vault enclosure in place
-0 of 8 ATS/Distribution Panels in place
- No cabling ran at all
What is Missing From Halls 1-4:
-12 2.5MW diesel generators (onsite in staging area)
-9 MERs (not confirmed onsite yet)
-28 ATS/Distribution Panels (not confirmed onsite yet)
I defer to @FransBakker9812 for time-to-completion estimates and if this is on track to go live before year-end. I believe it is.
Stay tuned, more zoomed-in stills and details to come in future posts.
Workers are living on-site and working night and day, God bless them.
What details would you like me to dive into more and/or show pics of?
-Power infrastructure, Sub-Station
-Detailed overview of one of the 32 segments/pads
-Dual Fiber Path Network (for redundancy)
-Staging area and materials onsite
-Timeline to completion
More posts to come, God Bless!
Hi,
Tomorrow we are re-opening the Pro $200 subscriptions to new subscribers, but together with it we are also changing how we calculate the usage for it. In effect, if you do the math, it will net out at half the dollar in API spend compared to the old Pro $200 plan.
Now that it's said, let me explain why this is happening and why you will still get more work done than if you were on the Pro $200 subscription one month ago.
(a) We didn't want to compromise in other ways and are committing to not reintroducing the 5h limit, so that you can fully use the weekly usage when you want.
(b) On the subscription, we guarantee that over time you always get more work done and with an increasing level of quality. This means that you will continue to get more value per dollar spent as a result of models getting more efficient and us passing down the improvements in the form of API price reductions.
(c) We don't want to put an incentive on ourselves to artificially inflate the API list prices to make it look like you are getting a lot (and workaround it through discounts, etc). Instead we want to continue to both rapidly reduce prices and increase capabilities of models on the API. This week we introduced GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna at 50% of their previous price. Over time, we see prices go low enough that it makes sense for most to buy usage as needed without there being a significant gap between what you get in a subscription and what you get in the API for a dollar spent.
(d) Tomorrow, we are adding more things to the subscription that won't draw on the usage, I won't reveal what that is yet.
I wanted to be transparent before all the big announcements tomorrow. Lots of new exciting things are coming to the subscriptions that will make it super compelling, but I wanted to make sure to share this change ahead of time so you can all understand it before we shower you with good news.
Codexingly,
Tibo
