There’s a “Katie Porter should have quit and let Steyer win” discourse, but worth examining how a Dem with bottomless money endorsing every progressive position couldn’t win most Democratic votes… in California.
Many things are true:
1. Our party brand sucks.
2. Their party brand is worse.
3. We are likely to have a successful midterm.
4. A successful midterm will not be evidence that we’ve fixed 1.
5. The reasons for 1 are manifold.
6. A better economic brand is top of the 5 list.
Let's talk about rideshare in DC.
DC residents have been complaining for years about longer waits, higher prices, fewer drivers when you actually need one. Back in 2016-17, my passengers were already complaining about this.
Is it real, or just vibes? I looked at the data. 🧵

“What happened to learning as a national priority? … as Democrats tried to address poverty & inequality, they sometimes minimized schools’ core functions of learning … Satisfaction with public education is at a quarter-century low” — @DanaGoldstein in the New York Times
The #Bears have beaten bad defenses before, but not quite like this: They had five touchdown drives of 70+ yards in a game for the first time in the Super Bowl era. So don't let the naysayers dismiss this victory as an insignificant fluke. The Ben Johnson Effect is real.
"Every single day you have kids showing up to school, and those kids either want to learn or it’s our job to help them want to learn, and we need to figure out the tools to do that."
Our very own @lizcohen12 talked with @The74 for a deep dive into her brand new book "The Future of Tutoring", which is out today!
Liz discusses her travels across the country over the past two years, where she discovered how certain high-impact tutoring programs succeeded, and how others struggled to get off the ground.
I am obsessed with the soybean saga which to my mind isn’t getting enough attention. ICYMI: Because Trump’s tariff war, China has stopped buying US soybeans. Very bad for our midwestern famers. Meanwhile, Trump decides to bailout pal Argentina which turns around and sells their soybeans at a discount to … China. Our farmers doubly hurt. More reporting here. https://t.co/kxT27ZRhar
Democrats are fighting to preserve an Obamacare tax credit. Without it, a 55-year-old couple making $85K would see their premiums more than triple to $24,535.
I'm actually kind of surprised how well Americans understand the difference between private entities like social media companies policing speech and the government getting involved.
Via a 2021 Knight Foundation-Ipsos poll:
Feels necessary to remind everybody things were REALLY dark in Detroit when Dan Campbell started there in 2021.
Painful as it is, you must let Ben Johnson do his job for the time being.

I don't always keep up with these Hollywood romances, but I'm told the actress from "Valentine's Day" and the actor from "Happy Gilmore 2" are engaged. I enjoy their work, and I wish all the best to this happy couple!
The end of federal funding should be the cue for foundations + wealthy individuals of all stripes to step in and help undergird a nonprofit model for PBS and NPR. And not just the big kids on the block but the smaller and less populous markets.
And while you’re at it, rescue Gannett, McClatchy, and the other newspaper chains, and create a trust to keep them going
You will do far more to sustain democracy then dumping money into a super pac every two years.
