As Marty Merrick rightly says; Brian Leonard is now a firm favourite among students in UCD.
A food and agribusiness management lecturer, his work focuses on farm succession and inheritance, diversification and rural development.
Brian chats to Marty about his own interesting journey to Belfield and he offers advice to students while in UCD and careers going forward!

EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Christophe Hansen has told Irish farmers that he wants farming to be sustainable economically as well as environmentally.
Addressing the Irish Farmers Association (IFA) AGM in Dublin @CHansenEU said agriculture and the environment did not need to be pitted against each other.
In his first visit to Ireland in his new role, Mr Hansen was greeted with applause when he said that it was not fair the EU imports agricultural products treated with products that were not allowed to be used by farmers within the EU.
Mr. Hansen then took time to meet representatives from Irish food, farming and environmental organisations during his visit to Dublin today including UCD’s Dr.Brian Leonard, Assistant Professor in Agricultural and Food Economics.
When discussing young farmers Mr.Hansen said; “Agriculture needs to stay a profession that attracts young people, where they can earn a decent living & be paid fairly by the market for what they produce. Without creating the right conditions for the future, we risk losing the next generation of farmers”.
All this week @MacranaFeirme were on the road looking to hear views of their members and the wider community on “Generational Renewal in Farming and the impact it’s having on the rural community.”
The sessions were being moderated by our own Dr.Brian Leonard and had a brilliant attendance to hear the voice and opinion of the people.
