@UNU_IIGH, together with @PSIglobalunion, @MMI_Updates, @Oikoumene, @Oxfam, @G2H2_Geneva, and the ๐๐ผ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ป๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐๐ผ๐น๐ผ๐บ๐ฏ๐ถ๐ฎ, convened a hybrid side event during the 79th World Health Assembly to explore how economic systems and policies shape health outcomes, equity, and access to care.
In her opening remarks, Dr. Revati Phalkey (@RPhalkey), Director, UNU-IIGH, highlighted that economic policy and systems have long been central concerns for public and global health. She also underscored the need for Member States and donors to support @WHOโs strategy on the Economics of Health for All, to be approved in this yearโs Assembly, with both political backing and adequate funding.
The discussion explored:
๐นHow economic systems and policies influence health equity and population well-being
๐นThe need to move beyond traditional economic approaches towards models centered on health, equity, and sustainability
๐นThe role of governments in aligning innovation, investment, and public procurement with public health priorities
๐นHow Ministries of Health can strengthen coordination with finance, industry, and development sectors to advance Health for All
The event brought together representatives and experts from governments and diplomatic missions, international organizations, civil society, and academia, including Prof. Mariana Mazzucato (@MazzucatoM), Chair of the @WHO Council on the Economics of Health for All; Dr. Kalipso Chalkidou (@kchalkidou), Director of Performance, Financing and Delivery at @WHO; Ms. Els Torreele (@ElsTorreele), Former Consultant of the Council on the Economics of Health for All; Prof. David McCoy, Research Lead on Power & Accountability at UNU-IIGH; Mr. Baba Aye (@BabaAye), Co-Chair of G2H2 and Health and Social Sector Officer at PSI; Dr. ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐บ๐ฎ๐ป ๐ฉ๐ฒ๐น๐ฎฬ๐๐พ๐๐ฒ๐ ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ป๐ด๐ผ, Deputy Permanent Representative of Colombia to the @UN in Geneva; Dr. ๐๐พ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ฎ ๐ง๐ต๐๐น๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฒ, Technical Advisor of the National Department of Health of South Africa; Dr. Heli Hรคtรถnen (@HeliHatonen), Senior Ministerial Advisor of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health of Finland; Dr. ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐๐ถ๐ป ๐ฉ๐ฒ๐๐ป๐ฎ ๐ฃ๐ฒ๐๐ฟ๐ถฤ, Head of the Office for Cooperation with WHO of the Ministry of Health of Slovenia; and Ms. Nicoletta Dentico (@NDentico), Co-Chair of the Geneva Global Health Hub and Director of the Global Health Justice Programme of the Society for International Development.

The 2027 elections will turn out to be more than elections @aacparty holds forth the hope & prospects of struggle for Total Liberation of the working people & oppressed in Nigeria. #RevolutionNow https://t.co/1p6fCgoC68
Gun-boat diplomacy has probably never acquired such an explicit & strait jacketed meaning in modern history. It doesn't speak to strength for the United States of (parts of North) America. On the contrary it demonstrates the buffoonery of decline most aptly represented by Trump.
As @WHO & global leaders mark #WorldHealthDay with a call to stand with science, together, @PSIglobalunion demands putting people & the planet before profit. Evidence shows this is the only way to ensure #HealthForAll & "One Health" https://t.co/huwqiSdMHJ
Nigerians have developed a dangerous habit of curating their own oppressors, and in many ways, VDM himself is a product and now a participant of that same flawed system of kangaroo justice. In March 2024, he was arrested and remanded over cyberbullying allegations involving Tonto Dikeh and Iyabo Ojo, where he pleaded not guilty and spent roughly two weeks in detention before his release. By June 2024, he was again arrested in connection with a defamation complaint tied to his online accusations, without any immediate conviction. In October 2024, he was briefly detained over a video in which he appeared in a police uniform, and most notably, in May 2025, he was arrested by the EFCC based on multiple petitions, held for several days, and later released on administrative bail without any formal conviction at that stage. Taken together, these cases show a consistent pattern VDM has repeatedly been subjected to arrest and detention before any judicial determination of guilt, reinforcing the point that pre-trial incarceration is not unique to Blord but part of a wider systemic issue that many Nigerians once condemned.
VDM cannot now be the one to bend the spine of justice to match his anger. If we spoke up for him then, we must speak up again now regardless!!
@Davidzhang00536@sowore hehehehehehehe. abeg, I no want to laugh or commit useful time to taking on a happenstance of a minion of a masquerade "activist".
the ongoing social media discourse shows the difference between vdm's perfomative activism as an individiual and @sowore's consistent liberationist activism which puts democratic rights and organisation-building at its centre. vdm's activism is nothing but a self-serving ego trip
@Davidzhang00536@sowore that is part of the problem. reducing the politics of human rights to paddy paddy relations of some senior man or the other as you put it is to be dishonest about any claim to being activist.
@Davidzhang00536@sowore you keep coming up with false dilemmas, creating a strawman that doesn't exist. @sowore has not applauded Blord. He has merely stood up for his rights as a human to be respected in the face of accusations he has not been found guilty of. if anyone is running his mouth it's vdm.
@Davidzhang00536@sowore now it's clearer: the blindest persons are not those that are blind but those that choose not to see. you've also shown you know little about what/whom you are talking about. if you are keen to know the truth & which is what can set you free, search - it's all out there online.
@Davidzhang00536@sowore@sowore merely offered to help with the lad getting legal aid. vdm rather was gloating about his spending the Easter weekend there. this is straight forward. also straightforward is being innocent until proven guilty. that is not the samething as supporting a crime. simplicita.
@Davidzhang00536@sowore you miss the point. it is not about two or more truths co-existing. it is about prioritising human rights and being genuine or false in laying claim to standing up for this.
@OKUNS23@RIAOFIBADAN@sowore who is talking of perfection? what is at stake here is pรกnda showing itself of for the facade it is, as against a time-and-again proven genuine article of struggle for the exploited and oppressed.
@Davidzhang00536@sowore he is nothing but an emergency masquerade of quasi-activism. a wannabe self-ascribed ombudsman with questionable intent who's feeding off the dregs of the attention economy of social media.
