Sudanese American Medical NGO welcomes the agreement to protect Hospitals and calls for Immediate Implementation.

Sudanese American Physician Association (SAPA) welcomes the preliminary agreement signed by representatives from the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces, and commends, in particular, the commitment to the security and safety of healthcare facilities & personnel. SAPA calls for both sides to honor the agreement. @YYElamin , president of SAPA, released the following statement:

“For weeks, SAPA and partners have called on the SAF and RSF to cease the unconscionable attacks on Hospitals. We asked for the negotiations to address specific measures to protect healthcare workers & facilities. The signed agreement includes provisions to safeguard hospitals, healthcare workers, and ambulances and is a huge step forward if both parties carry through with their commitments.

“Medical facilities and personnel have been in the crossfire since the start of this horrific conflict, bringing the health care system to its knees. The effect has been a calamity for the Sudanese people, endangering health workers and thousands of people who rely on their care.

“For this agreement to be honored & implemented, the international community & United States must continue to exert pressure on both sides. Empty words with no action are pointless & unacceptable. We call on both sides to execute the terms of this agreement without delay.”
