Why does a caste census matter?

India last counted its castes in 1931. But Telangana decided to do it in 2024.

State surveyed 3.55 crore people across 242 caste groups, door to door.

I read every page. More I read, More convinced I got why it's needed.

@angry_birdu There’s a misdirection. Even if we go by 50% expansion formula and not 2011 census, the % won’t increase as claimed. 39/524 = 59/792 ≈ 7.45%. But 59 is made to look larger by using a different denominator- divided by 815 instead of 792-while 39 is divided by 543 instead of 524.

நம்முடைய கடும் எதிர்ப்பினையும் போராட்டத்தினையும் தொடர்ந்து, தொகுதி மறுவரையறையால் தமிழ்நாட்டின் தொகுதி அளவு குறையாது என மாண்புமிகு பிரதமர் அவர்களும் உள்துறை அமைச்சர் அவர்களும் நேற்று நாடாளுமன்றத்தில் வாய்மொழி உத்தரவாதம் அளித்துள்ளனர்.

ஆனால், சொல் ஒன்று – செயல் வேறு என்பதாக, இவர்கள் தாக்கல் செய்துள்ள சட்டமுன்வடிவு முழுக்க முழுக்க ஏமாற்றுத் திட்டமாக இருக்கிறது. இதை நம்பவும் முடியாது, ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளவும் முடியாது எனத் திட்டவட்டமாக நிராகரிக்கிறோம்.

இந்தச் சட்டமுன்வடிவில் தொகுதி மறுசீரமைப்பு ஆணையத்துக்கு அளிக்கப்பட்டுள்ள அதிகாரங்கள் மூலம், இவர்கள் நினைத்தால் நினைத்த நேரத்தில், நினைத்த முறையில், எப்போது வேண்டுமானாலும் எதிர்காலத்தில், இவர்களுக்குச் சாதகமான வகையில், இந்திய மாநிலங்களின் தொகுதியளவை மாற்றியமைத்துக் கொள்வதற்கான வழிவகைகள் இந்தக் கருப்புச் சட்டத்தில் இடம்பெற்றுள்ளன. பெரும் சூழ்ச்சியை உள்ளடக்கியதாக இந்தச் சட்டமுன்வடிவு இருக்கிறது.

அவசரகதியில் இதனை நிறைவேற்றக் கூடாது. ஒன்றிய அரசு இதனை முழுவதுமாகத் திரும்பப் பெற வேண்டும். எண்ணிக்கை பலம் இருக்கிறது என்ற திமிரில், எங்களின் எதிர்ப்பை மீறி இதனை நிறைவேற்றினால், அதற்கான விளைவுகளைத் தமிழ்நாட்டில் நீங்கள் சந்திக்க வேண்டியிருக்கும்.

நேரு அவர்கள் இந்தியைத் திணிக்க மாட்டோம் என்றார், இருந்தவரை அந்த உறுதிமொழியைக் காப்பாற்றினார். ஆனால், தற்போதைய ஒன்றிய ஆட்சியாளர்களோ மாநில உரிமைகளைக் காப்பாற்றுவோம் எனச் சொல்லிக்கொண்டே அதனைச் சில்லு சில்லாக நொறுக்கும் வேலையில் ஈடுபடுகின்றனர்.

நாம் கோருவது, முன்னாள் பிரதமர்கள் இந்திரா காந்தி அவர்களும், வாஜ்பாய் அவர்களும் அரசியலமைப்புச் சட்டத்திலேயே திருத்தம் செய்து, 25 ஆண்டுகளுக்குத் தொகுதி மறுசீரமைப்பை நிறுத்தி வைத்ததைப் போன்ற சட்டப் பாதுகாப்பு.

Today is a defining moment in Tamil Nadu’s political history. It is the day we will see the outcome of our relentless resistance against delimitation.

In the face of our sustained protests and uncompromising opposition, the Hon’ble Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister have, on the floor of Parliament, offered a verbal assurance that Tamil Nadu’s representation will not be reduced.

But their words say one thing, their actions reveal another. The Bill they have introduced is nothing but a calculated deception. We reject it outright. It cannot be trusted. It will not be accepted.

The sweeping powers granted to the Delimitation Commission under this Bill make one thing clear. At any time, in any manner they choose, they can alter the representation of states to suit their political interests. This so called legislation is a carefully crafted trap, loaded with dangerous intent.

This Bill must not be rushed through in haste. The Union Government must withdraw it in full. If they attempt to bulldoze it through Parliament, emboldened by the numbers they have stitched together, and in complete disregard of our opposition, they will face the consequences in Tamil Nadu.

Jawaharlal Nehru assured that Hindi would never be imposed, and he honoured that promise as long as he lived. The present Union regime, however, speaks of protecting state rights even as it systematically dismantles them piece by piece.

What we demand is clear. The same constitutional safeguard that former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee provided by freezing delimitation through constitutional amendment must be restored.

The Union BJP Government must listen to the voice of Tamil Nadu.

🏴 Punishment for contributing to India’s progress? Is this how Tamil Nadu and the southern states are repaid?

🏴 The #Delimitation amendment the Union BJP government plans to bring in Parliament tomorrow is a massive historic injustice against Tamil Nadu and the southern states.

🏴 Every South Indian south of the Vindhyas is seething with anger. The BJP is playing with fire.

🏴 Across Tamil Nadu, black flags will rise from homes and public spaces tomorrow in protest against delimitation.

🏴 If the Union government refuses to respect Tamil Nadu’s voice and step back, you will face the consequences. The price you will pay will be heavy.

🏴 As President of the DMK, and above all as a self respecting Tamil, this is my stern warning.

The Fundamental Principle of One Person one vote one value - Article 81 (2) (a) stands as it is :

It says :
there shall be allotted to each State a number of seats in the House of the People in such manner that the ratio between that number and the population of the state is, so far as practicable, the same for all States;

2011- Census will be the basis
delimitation according to the Constitution Amendment Bill

Presuming Delimitation Commission will divide 850 seats proposed in the Constitutional Amendment Bill by the Population of India in 2011 that was 121 crores- each Lok Sabha seat would be 14.2 Lakhs approximately.

Now apply this to to population of Kerala in 2011 by way of example- 3.34 crores roughly divided by 14.2 Lakhs Kerala will
get about 23 seats up from 20 seats.

UP will go upto 142 seats from the current 80 by the same formula

Punjab will go up from current 13 to19

Then 1/3 rd of Lok Sabha seats will be reserved for women for 15 years.

The Freeze of 1971 Census on number of seats stands lifted.

The Federal balance will get further skewed to the advantage of the Heartland states.

These bills are portentous in their implications .

Tamil Nadu CM @mkstalin issued a stern warning to the Union government over the proposed #delimitation exercise ahead of the special session of #Parliament, scheduled to begin on April 16.

In a video message, the CM stated that the state would launch a massive agitation if its interests were harmed or if southern states were disproportionately affected.

"This special session is being forcibly convened in the midst of elections and Tamil Nadu and West Bengal," he added.

Sebastien Bubeck gave it an open problem from convex optimization, something humans had only partially solved. GPT-5-Pro sat down, reasoned for 17 minutes, and produced a correct proof improving the known bound from 1/L all the way to 1.5/L.

This wasn’t in the paper. It wasn’t online. It wasn’t memorized. It was new math. Verified by Bubeck himself.

Humans later closed the gap at 1.75/L, but GPT-5 independently advanced the frontier.
A machine just contributed original research-level mathematics.

If you’re not completely stunned by this, you’re not paying attention.
